Harvey Weinstein is in intensive care in New York as he recovers from emergency heart surgery.

Weinstein, 72, is believed to have been suffering from a ‘myriad of health conditions’, including chest pains.

The disgraced film producer’s legal team confirmed that he was transported this morning from the Rikers Island jail complex to Bellevue Hospital.

Lawyer Arthur Aidala did not provide further details.

In July, Weinstein tested positive for Covid-19 and was hospitalised with double pneumonia.

He was also admitted to hospital in 2020 for chest pains and later returned to Bellevue to have a blocked artery opened.

Weinstein is known to have diabetes and high blood pressure.

The former filmmaker is due in court next week for a retrial of his 2020 Manhattan rape conviction related to an incident in 2013 where he appeared uninvited in a woman’s hotel room during a Los Angeles film festival.

His February 2023 verdict saw him handed a 23-year prison sentence, which was overturned in a shocking development this April due to a majority decision from the Court of Appeal.

More than 100 people have made allegations of rape and sexual misconduct against Weinstein, dating back to the late 1970s.
