<p id=”par-1_42″><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/princess-diana/?swcfpc=1″>Princess Diana</a> died following a car crash more than 25 years ago. At the time of <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/these-were-princess-dianas-last-words-before-she-died.html/?swcfpc=1″>her death</a> her two sons, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/prince-william/?swcfpc=1″>Prince William</a> and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/prince-harry/?swcfpc=1″>Prince Harry</a>, were just 15 and 12 years old. Therefore, their wives and children never got to meet her. </p>
<p id=”par-2_38″>Over the years, the princes have spoken about keeping their mother’s memory alive and that is especially true with their children. William has stated that it is “important they know who she was and that she existed.” </p>
<p id=”par-3_44″>So while Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis know all about their “Granny Diana,” many have wondered if William and Kate ever took them to <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/princess-diana-final-resting-place-seen-eerie-new-photos.html/”>Diana’s gravesite</a>. Here’s the answer to that, plus which other family members have and haven’t been there. </p>

<p id=”par-4_104″>Princess Diana was laid to rest at the Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire, which is the family home of <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/princess-dianas-brother-recalls-heartbreaking-way-found-death.html/?swcfpc=1″>Diana’s brother Charles Spencer</a>, 9th Earl Spencer. He inherited the property when their father, John Spencer, died in 1992. Princess Diana’s gravesite is located on an island that is next to an ornamental lake (called The Oval) within Althorp Park’s Pleasure Garden. The path to the lake is lined with 36 oak trees, each of which represents a year of Diana’s life. The burial site is only accessible by boat. It’s off-limits to the public but open to royal family members who want to stop by and pay their respects.</p>
<p id=”par-5_73″>In 2001, Diana’s brother called out then-Prince Charles for never visiting his ex-wife’s grave. He told the <a href=”https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-60248/Charles-shuns-Dianas-grave.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Daily Mail</a> that Charles always had an open invitation to visit but “has yet to take up that invitation.” A Palace spokesperson would not confirm or deny if the royal has visited since then only saying in a statement that “The matter of whether Charles has visited [Princess Diana]’s grave is a personal and private matter for him.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_36″>Prince William and Prince Harry have been to their mother’s gravesite on several occasions. In <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/prince-harrys-memoir-spare-now-become-one-most-discarded-books-time.html/”>his tell-all memoir <em>Spare</em></a>, the Duke of Sussex revealed that he brought Meghan there for the first time in 2022. </p>
<p id=”par-7_30″>And William had brought Kate there for the first time in 2011, shortly before they tied the knot. But have the prince and princess’s three kids ever been there? </p>

<p id=”par-8_33″>Royal author Phil Dampier told <a href=”https://www.thesun.co.uk/royals/30173504/sweet-ways-george-charlotte-louis-tribute-princess-diana/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Fabulous</a> that not only does William keep his mother’s memory alive by talking about her with his children, but the young royals have also visited <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/why-prince-william-said-princess-diana-would-be-a-nightmare-grandmother-to-his-kids.html/”>their grandmother</a>‘s grave. </p>
<p id=”par-9_25″>“William and Kate have taken the kids to Diana’s grave at Althorp,” he said before opining, “It must be very poignant when they do so.”</p>
<p id=”par-10_71″>Dampier added: “Kate always makes sure her kids know all about Diana especially on anniversaries such as her birthday or death. Her mom, Carole, is very close to George, Charlotte, and Louis, and of course she is the grandmother they have grown up with while sadly they never met Diana. Neither did Kate and she said on the day she got engaged to William that she would have loved to. </p>
