Heath Ledger and Michelle Williamsâ daughter, Matilda Ledger, made a rare public appearance in New York City last Thursday, her first in nearly seven months. The 19-year-old, who bears a striking resemblance to her late father, was photographed riding her bike through the city.
Matilda Looks Like A Splitting Image Of Her Dad
As per photos published by Page Six, for the outing, Matilda wore a blue-and-white striped sweater with an A-line denim midi skirt and bright red flats. Later, she changed into a light gray jacket, carrying a green tote bag and pulling a large suitcase while shopping.
A Style Connection to Her Last Outing
Matilda was last photographed in January while stepping out for coffee with a friend in Brooklyn. For that outing, she wore the same pair of red flats, this time styled with black tights to keep warm. She completed the look with a green puffer jacket and baggy jeans.
The sighting came just one week before the anniversary of Ledgerâs death. The actor, known for roles in “The Dark Knight” and “Brokeback Mountain”, died on January 22, 2008, at age 28 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
Michelle Williams Reflects on Parenting Matilda
Williams welcomed Matilda in October 2005, a year after she met Ledger on the set of Brokeback Mountain. The couple ended their relationship in 2007, a year before his passing.
In March, Williams reflected on raising her daughter during an appearance on Dax Shepardâs Armchair Expert podcast. âWhen I make mistakes in front of my daughter and own up to them and apologize, it teaches her to apologize and say, âOops, Mommy, Iâm sorry,â and itâs not a big deal,â the actress said.
She also spoke about the challenges of being young while navigating love and loss, saying, âI suppose maybe a good thing about being young is that you donât have so much life experience that you can contextualize things.â
A Growing Family for Michelle Williams

In April, the actress was spotted with her family of six in their New York neighborhood. A source told People that Matilda has embraced her role as a big sister. âThey couldnât be happier to expand their family, and Matilda has been doting on her younger siblings,â the insider said.
Williams publicly thanked her surrogate during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in August, saying, âThanks to Christine, I have three under 5 at home.â
