Here’s What the Critics Are Saying About ‘Superman’

Superman 2025

James Gunn’s “Superman” is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2025. Starring David Corenswet as the fan-favorite superhero, the new film has much to prove as it serves as a jumping-off point for the new DC Universe. Naturally, many moviegoers will want to see reviews for the movie before forking over the cash to see it in theaters.

It’s also worth noting that this is the first “Superman” movie since 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

The 2025 Version of ‘Superman’ Has Strong Initial Social Media Reactions

The social media embargo for reactions to James Gunn‘s “Superman” lifted at midnight on July 8. So far, people who had the chance to see the new film seem to be mostly in agreement that it’s one that comic book fans will enjoy.

Notably, the official “Superman” X account collected four reviews shared on the platform. The person running the account captioned the post, “The reviews are in, and Superman is soaring with fans and critics alike.”

One reviewer, Brandon Davis, remarked, “Superman is a triumph for the new DC Universe. It’s a comic book brought to beautiful live-action life, brimming with hope & fulfillment. It actually elicited tears of joy from me.” He continued, “It’s a Superman for everyone. David Corenswet was born for Superman & Clark Kent. Loved it.”

Additionally, film critic Grace Randolph gave a positive social media reaction to the 2025 version of “Superman.” She said on X, “This is the BEST Superman movie to date. When James Gunn gets out of the way & lets his work speak for itself, it’s incredible.”

Grace continued, “It’s not perfect, but darn close & made me a believer in Gunn’s DC.” She later stated that her full review will go into some of the film’s flaws. Grace Randolph also said she had concerns for the success of the movie with general audiences.”

It’s Not All Positive For The New Movie

While the social media reviews for James Gunn’s latest work have been great, not everyone agrees. According to Forbes, some critics have released reviews before the official embargo lifted, with one being rather scathing.

“The Daily Beast” released a review of the film titled, “The Terrible New ‘Superman’ Movie Is the Final Nail in the Grave for the Superhero Genre.” The outlet quickly deleted the review, but it has made its rounds online. As the headline suggests, the critic didn’t love the new movie.

However, “The Sunday Times” posted a positive review of the film, calling it a “triumph.”

This article will be updated as official critics publish reviews.
