Jamie Campbell Bower has admitted starring in one of Netflix’s biggest-ever shows as an iconic villain ‘f**ks him up’.
The 36-year-old has been unrecognisable as Vecna in Stranger Things, and is about to say a farewell to his role.
Jamie previously revealed that he needed ‘heavy, dark meditation’, would isolate himself, and even print out pictures of Vecna’s victims to get into character for the monster, who made its debut in the fourth season of the Millie Bobby Brown-starring series.
However, he’s now ready to say goodbye, as Stranger Things comes to an end for its fifth and final season.
Speaking at MegaCon Orlando recently about taking a break from playing villains, Jamie explained: ‘It’s funny, I was talking to my therapist the other day…I’m not lying… We were going through some stuff, and he was like, “We really need to make sure that you carve out time for you whenever you’re working next.”
‘I turned around to him, and I was like, “Yeah, to be honest with you, man, I just don’t think I’ll be doing another bad guy for a minute.”

‘Like it f**ks me up, I’m dead serious.’
Reflecting on his ‘incredible journey’ on the show, he added, according to People: ‘But I definitely am ready to hang up the foam latex and wish him a slippery farewell.’
After filming wrapped up late last year, Jamie shared an image of himself being adapted into Vecna with makeup artists working on him, and simply wrote: ‘Over and out x.’
It was previously revealed it took a four-man team and approximately seven hours to apply Jamie’s makeup every day for filming, and another hour and a half to take it all off.

The final episodes of the sci-fi series will see the residents of Hawkins, including characters played by Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo and Sadie Sink, face Vecna for one final time.
Co-creator Matt Duffer previously teased the fifth season as ‘big and epic’, while his brother and co-creator said: ‘This season is the biggest it’s ever been in scale.’
‘There’s no time for a ramp-up. It’s going to be intense from beginning to end,’ Matt added.

Teasing the end of Vecna’s reign in the Upside Down, Jamie said back in 2022: ‘He’s p****d, he’s properly vexed.’
‘I don’t think he’s slunk off licking his wounds in misery. He’s rebuilding, and he’s out for blood.’
‘It’s like, you’ve really f*****g pushed the buttons now, that classic Jason Voorheesthing – you’ve made a big mistake,’ he added to NME.
Stranger Things season 5 returns to Netflix later this year.
