Hollywood icon Shirley MacLaine appeared sprightly while enjoying lunch with a friend in Malibu.

The 90-year-old film star was accompanied by her carer for an outing at Kristy’s Cafe on the Fourth of July.

The Terms Of Endearment actress kept it casual in grey trousers, a matching hoodie, and a pastel purple t-shirt.

She accessorised with a light blue visor to combat the Malibu sun and stylish brown sunglasses as she was spotted talking on the phone during the outing.

Shirley’s carer helped the star get into her car once lunch was over after walking her to her vehicle.

It comes after the Steel Magnolias actor showed no signs of slowing down as she stepped out to celebrate her 90th birthday in April.

She celebrated the milestone birthday at Kristy’s – a regular haunt for the big screen icon – as she was spotted sucking on a lollipop after enjoying a chilled lunch.

While crossing the road, the film star gently held onto a pal’s arm for assistance.

She also marked the occasion by announcing a new book The Wall of Life, set to be released on October 22, featuring stories from across her life.

Sharing the news, she told People: ‘I have lived a wonderful life and I wanted to share it, all of the photos brought back such wonderful memories.’

She continued: ‘About 45 years ago, I put ten or so framed photographs of friends and family and people I’ve worked with all grouped together on a living room wall.

‘Everyone who came over loved to look at this montage, and so The Wall of Life was born. I’m pleased to share a selection of these photos — and some of the stories behind them — in this book.’

The star is best known for portraying strong-willed, eccentric women across her career – and has received numerous accolades in the process.

Throughout her career spanning eight decades, she’s won an Oscar, an Emmy, two Baftas, and six Golden Globes, to name just a few.

As well as a new book, Shirley is set to star in the new film People Not Places, directed by The Infiltrator’s Brad Furman.

It tells the story of a sprightly woman in her twilight years who begins an unlikely friendship with a local homeless man while struggling to mend a troubled relationship with her son.

‘It’s a wonderful script and we are getting ready to start and will see what happens,’ she said of the movie.
