The Home Alone mansion from the beloved Christmas film has found a buyer in time for the festive season.

The mansion’s exterior was used as the McCallister family home in both Home Alone and the 1992 sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – and looks much like it did then.

The Illinois house was put up for sale for $5,250,000 (£4.11m) in May, but now the listing says ‘Sale Pending’ – meaning a lucky buyer has had their offer accepted.

The Coldwell Banker Realty website, where the house is listed, describes the five bedroom, six bathroom property as a ‘legendary holiday dream home reimagined for modern-day luxury’.

‘Brimming with warmth, character and exquisitely drafted detail,’ the 9,126 square ft house – built in 1921 – was fully renovated in 2018. The foyer, entrance staircase, dining room and living room have been preserved as they always were in ‘form and structure’.

A sunny family room is a recent addition to the mansion, which also features a double island in the kitchen, a wood-burning fireplace, a three-car garage, as well as a patio which leads out to a back yard.

Upstairs, the master suite boasts a fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and marble spa bath. There’s also a fully-equipped gym and cinema room. Not only that but the Georgian house also features an indoor sports court. We wouldn’t mind being left behind in this gaff for Christmas…

It seems there’s a lot of interest in the house, located in the Winnetka area of Chicago – but we’ll bet not all of them are potential buyers, as the property listing has been viewed over 70,000 times.

The inside looks quite different to the films, with neutral dark wood floors throughout and a notable absence of Kevin McCallister’s booby-traps to keep the robbers at bay.

Macaulay Culkin, 44, who is best known for playing Kevin McCallister in the film franchise, recently revealed he’d considered buying the nostalgic house.

‘I had half a mind to buy it – just for giggles,’ Macaulay told the audience at Illinois’ Rosemont Theater during a screening of the movie, reported The New York Times

The actor reportedly said that he imagined turning it into a movie fun house where you can sledge down the stairs as his character does in the first film but decided against it.

‘I got kids. I’m busy, man,’ he told audience members.

The actor has two sons named Carson and Dakota with fellow actor Brenda Song, who is best known for starring in the Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

On watching the film, Macaulay’s three-year-old son Dakota thought he was Kevin – and not his dad.

‘He thinks he’s Kevin,’ he told E! News. ‘I’m like, “Do you remember going down the stairs on the sled?” He’s like, “Mmhmm, yep. Sure do.” I’m like, “Do you remember when he had yellow hair?” And he’s like, “Uh-huh, yep”.’

Dakota also said he remembered the burglars trying to get into the house, but Macaulay brought him back down to earth, saying, ‘You’re a lying liar who lies,’ adding, ‘That was me!’.
