
Production for “House of the Dragon” season 3 has officially begun, and some big casting news has been announced. Like season 2, the new season will feature eight episodes and continue the Targaryen civil war story set 200 years before “Game of Thrones.” Here’s what we know so far about the cast who will fight the Dance of the Dragons.Â
Many ‘House of the Dragon’ Stars From Season 2 Will Be Returning for Season 3
The first season of “House of the Dragon” featured 10 episodes, while seasons 2 and 3 will have eight. According to showrunner Ryan Condal, the episode count will remain at eight for the rest of the series.
âI havenât had discussions with HBO about it. I would just anticipate the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, will continue to be the same from Season 2 on,” Condal said, per Variety.
The returning cast for season 3 includes: Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Emma DâArcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Steve Toussaint (Lord Corlys Velaryon), Rhys Ifans (Ser Otto Hightower), Fabien Frankel (Ser Otto Hightower), Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen), Tom Glynn-Carney (King Aegon II Targaryen), and Sonoya Mizuno (Mysaria).
Also returning is Harry Collett (Prince Jacaerys “Jace” Velaryon), Bethany Antonia (Lady Baela Targaryen), Phoebe Campbell (Lady Rhaena Targaryen), Phia Saban (Helaena Targaryen), Jefferson Hall (Lord Jason Lannister/Ser Tyland Lannister), Matthew Needham (Lord Larys Strong), Tom Bennett (Ulf White), Kieran Bew (Hugh Hammer), Kurt Egyiawan (Grand Maester Orwyle), Freddie Fox (Ser Gwayne Hightower), Clinton Liberty (Addam of Hull), Gayle Rankin (Alys Rivers), and Abubakar Salim (Alyn of Hull).
Some Big Names Have Been Added to the Cast for Season 3
Joining the “House of the Dragon” cast in season 3 is “Sons of Anarchy” and “Gladiator” alum Tommy Flanagan as Ser Roderick Dustin, or Roddy the Ruin. A bannerman of House Stark, Roddy is also the leader of the Winter Wolves, who were sent to aid Queen Rhaenyra’s war efforts.
Dan Fogler, from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, “The Walking Dead,” and “A Complete Unknown,” will play Ser Torrhen Manderly. Sent to support Queen Rhaenyra’s cause, he is the son of Lord Desmond Manderly.
James Norton has also been confirmed as a cast addition for season 3 as Ormund Hightower, Otto’s nephew and Alicent’s cousin. His character description reveals that he is “presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King’s Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra.”
More Cast Members Have Been Confirmed for the Next Season of ‘House of the Dragon’
Accomplished actor Tom Cullen has been cast as Ser Luthor Largent, the Lord Commander of the City Watch in King’s Landing. Meanwhile, Joplin Sibtain takes on the role of Ser Jon Roxton, or Bold Jon, who is fighting for Lord Ormund Hightower. Barry Sloane has also been confirmed as Ser Adrian Redfort, a Queen Rhaenyra’s Queensguard member.
Unannounced supporting cast members for “House of the Dragon” season 3 include Peter Polycarpou as Lord Gaunt, Dawn Butler as Weaver, and Joe Gaminara as Ser Leon.
Actors cast in unknown roles include Lucas Aurelio, Dean Fagan, Daisy Kakkar, and Sam Swann.
The first two seasons of “House of the Dragon” are now streaming on Max.
