An iconic piece of 90s movie home history has just hit the real estate market—and it comes with a jaw-dropping $91 million price tag. Known as The Seacliff, the stunning oceanfront estate in California’s Carmel Highlands became legendary after serving as the backdrop for one of the 1990s most unforgettable thrillers: “Basic Instinct.”

The home first hit the market back in 2019 but didn’t find a buyer. Fast forward a few years—and $11 million in renovations later—it’s officially back up for grabs. According to The Wall Street Journal, the upgrades have made the estate even more irresistible to potential owners. And as if the ocean views weren’t enough, the lucky buyer will also score a pretty famous neighbor: Brad Pitt.

The sprawling residence sits on 5.35 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean and features eight bedrooms, three kitchens, and 11 fireplaces. The grounds also boast four guest cottages, spa facilities, an indoor sauna, a steam room, an outdoor barrel sauna, and a cold plunge. Altogether, the property offers 1,000 feet of dramatic coastline paired with lush forest surroundings.

“On the whole, Seacliff is perhaps the most dramatic and inspiring oceanfront property I have ever listed or laid eyes on,” said listing agent Tim Allen of Coldwell Banker Realty in a statement.

Currently owned by software entrepreneur Gary Vickers and his wife Kerry, the couple has used the estate as both a personal residence and high-end villa rentals while residing in one of the cottages.

The Hollywood History That Made It Famous

While the property’s amenities are impressive, its place in pop culture is what sets it apart. The estate was immortalized on screen in 1992’s “Basic Instinct,” where Sharon Stone’s character Catherine Tramell played out her seductive cat-and-mouse games with Michael Douglas’ Detective Nick Curran.

One of the film’s most memorable scenes—Stone tying Douglas to a bed—was set within the walls of the home’s main residence, known as The Lodge.

The Lodge also houses a two-story library dedicated to former resident and famed traveler Bob Fossett, the first man to circumnavigate the globe by hot air balloon. Included in the sale are photographs, a massive mural, and other pieces of memorabilia from Fossett’s adventures.

Movie and TV fans may also recognize the estate from HBO’s hit drama “Big Little Lies, “which featured the property in 2019.
