Broadway Calling After Long Film Success

Instead of slowing down, Squibb is returning to her roots. This December, the “Nebraska” star will appear on Broadway in “Marjorie Prime,” playing the role of Marjorie.

“I had a long career in the theater before I ever started doing film,” Squibb explained. “I was in my 60s when I started film. So it’s like going back home in a way, you know. And it’s a great script I’m doing, and a short time period of time.”

Scarlett Johansson Praises Her Cast

Before Squibb takes the stage, she is savoring her work on Johansson’s feature directorial debut. “I had a lot of fun,” Squibb shared, as per E! News. “I love the actors I was working with, and Scarlett was so great. She was such a leader. She made everything so smooth and easy.”

Johansson reflected on the joy of making the project, which follows Eleanor, a woman who moves to New York at age 90 and befriends a 19-year-old student.

“I have so many wonderful memories of being on set,” the “Avengers” alum said. “The film is very moving. There’s a lot of very deep, deep dramatic work that the actors are doing. And in between all of that, you have to laugh because otherwise you cry. So we were just like in hysterics all the time.”

A Career Still on the Rise

For Squibb, who only began working in film in her 60s, these latest roles are career milestones. At nearly a century old, she remains passionate and committed to her craft.

Johansson summed up the experience of working with Squibb and the cast: “Just being with my friends and making this movie, every day was wonderful.”

Despite decades in Hollywood, June Squibb only recently landed her first leading role in the action comedy “Thelma”. Squibb starred as a grandmother determined to recover $10,000 she lost to a phone scam. You can watch “Thelma” streaming on Hulu here.
