The hoax gained traction when actor John Leguizamo, who starred with Trejo in “The Infiltrator,” mistakenly posted a tribute that appeared to confirm the false reports.

A representative for Trejo quickly set the record straight, confirming to TMZ that he was alive and well. Trejo himself took to Instagram to reassure fans, writing, “Thank you all for your concern, but I am very much alive. Someone is spreading fake news.”
