Social media influencer Tanner Martin was open with fans about his cancer journey, announcing his diagnosis with an Instagram video in November 2020. Martin revealed he had been diagnosed with colon cancer. He was just 25. Almost five years later, Martin shared another emotional message on Instagram.

Martin had filmed a video before his death to announce his passing. Martin died on June 25, and fans reacted with an outpouring of love on the Tanner & Shay Instagram post. The account has 505,000 followers on the social media platform. However, another remarkable thing happened: those who had followed Martin’s journey knew he was leaving behind his wife, Shay Wright Martin, and their young daughter, AmyLou, who was born on May 15. So, they donated money to a GoFundMe page.

Fans Show Their Support for Tanner Martin With a GoFundMe Page

The fundraiser’s goal was to raise $250,000, but was later adjusted to $750,000. The donations have since exceeded it. In the early hours of Sunday, June 29, the total donations were $785,191. Over 37,000 people are contributing to the fund.

A message explained why the GoFundMe page had been started. “Hello everyone, this is a fundraiser in honor of Tanner — a loving husband, a proud father, and a beautiful soul who touched the lives of so many with his courage and humor, even in the face of terminal illness,” it reads. “This GoFundMe was set up at the request of Tanner to be activated upon his passing.”

He continued, “Tanner was only 30 years old when he passed away from colon cancer. Diagnosed so young, he didn’t have life insurance and knew that time was short.” The message explains that the fund would help “fulfill Tanner’s final wish: a secure life for his wife and daughter.”

There is also a detailed breakdown of four phases, with suggestions on how the funds would be used. Phase 4 is a long-term goal of being able to support AmyLou for things like “College, Wedding, Adulthood.”

Shay Wright Martin Reacts To Outpouring of Love From Her Late Husband’s Fans

Wright broke her silence to thank fans for their support with an emotional message. The update on the GoFundMe page was posted on June 26 and titled “You’ve Shown Us the Best of Humanity.”

“I’ve been sitting with my hand on my heart all day, just trying to take it all in,” Wright began. “Tanner always said the internet could be a beautiful place — and now I’ve seen it with my own eyes. The love and kindness pouring in from every corner of the world — from our TikTok and Instagram families, from friends and total strangers — is beyond anything I could’ve imagined. You’ve given AmyLou and me so much more than financial support.”

She went on to describe how the contributions from fans have given them hope. She continued, “You’ve made us feel seen. You’ve honored Tanner in the most incredible way.”

Wright also commented on how the original goal of $250,000 “was reached almost immediately.” This allowed her to “cry some happy tears. In addition to helping her and AmyLou, Wright shared that the money would also help others. Their goals were to support the Rebels Against Cancer organisation and establish the Tanner Martin Memorial Scholarship at Utah Valley University.
