Alan Carr has become a true national treasure after triumphing on Celebrity Traitors with an all-time performance.
He’s best known for presenting a string of comedy and talk shows over the years, and even using his upbringing to create a series based on his own life.
The comedian, presenter and writer has appeared on shows including The Friday Night Project, Alan Carr: Chatty Man and RuPaul’s Drag Race, and in 2023 he started semi-autobiographical sitcom Changing Ends.
Now, he can add Traitors winner to the list, after he lasted to the end after earning the £87,500 prize fund from under the noses of Faithful runner-ups Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga.
Viewers saw yet another side to Alan as he burst into tears in the final moments of the show, showing the emotional toll lying to his friends and fellow celebs had on him.
As the dust settles from the first ever UK Celebrity Traitors, here’s everything we know about Alan’s private life, which has provided plenty of inspiration for his projects over the years.
Is Alan Carr married?
Alan is gay, but previously spoke about not wanting his sexuality to be a focal part of his work.
‘I just think gay people need to get over themselves. Just because you’re gay and on the telly doesn’t mean you’re a role model. I’m just a comedian. That’s all I am,’ he said in 2008.
He once also spoke about being comfortable with his sexuality from a young age on Chatty Man, saying he was ‘never really in’ the closest and that other children were already making fun of his camp behaviour when he was eight or nine years old.
He is not currently married, and in January this year he told the Mirror: ”I’m dating, I’m dipping my toe in, but that’s all I’m doing. I won’t do the apps, it has to be a friend of a friend. I’m just going on a few dates but they’re unsuccessful.’
Who is Alan’s ex-husband?
In January 2018, Alan married his partner of ten years, Paul Drayton, in Los Angeles, with Adele officiating the wedding.
However, four years later the couple announced they had split, which came after Paul was convicted for drink-driving.
Alan was open about his struggles in the aftermath, especially as his beloved dog, Bev, died not long afterwards.
He admitted he felt ‘lonely’ and struggled to be at home by himself.
Alan later opened up about the reasons behind the split, citing Paul’s alcohol addiction as being ‘too much’ to cope with.
Who is Alan Carr’s dad?
William Graham Carr is an English former professional footballer, manager and scout who is currently an associate director for Northampton Town.
A half-back, he joined Northampton Town in 1962 before going on to play for York City and Bradford Park Avenue before moving into non-league football with Altrincham and Telford United.
He later played for Poole Town and Dartford, with whom he won the Southern League and gained an FA Trophy runners-up medal in 1974.
Graham was appointed player-manager of Weymouth in 1977 and then managed Dartford, Nuneaton Borough and Northampton Town.
After a brief stint with Blackpool he managed Maidstone United, Kettering Town, Weymouth, Dagenham and Redbridge and Doncaster Rovers.
In more recent years he has worked as scout for Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United but in 2017 returned to his former club Northampton Town to take up a role as an associate director.

After winning, Alan revealed his £87,500 prize pot will be donated to children’s cancer research charity Neuroblastoma UK.
‘The charity is so close to my heart that it all became a bit too much,’ he admitted. ‘Hopefully when people see how upset I was they won’t feel so bad that I killed all those national treasures.’
According to Neuroblastoma UK, its goal is to ‘lead to more effective treatments and ultimately a cure for every child diagnosed with the disease’.
The charity’s own website adds that ‘Neuroblastoma is classified as an embryonal tumour, a type of cancer that develops from the cells left behind from a baby’s development in the womb’.
What is Alan Carr doing next?
Not surprisingly, Alan is expected to be a very busy boy over the coming months.
As well as a third series of both Picture Slam and Changing Ends (the latter has a fourth on the way), new episodes of Alan and Amanda’s Greek Job are coming.
The Sun has reported that BBC has filmed a gameshow pilot with the star, and his earnings could soar after his charity win.
‘He’s already doing well financially but could see his earnings double with the influx of work. Brands are banging down the door to work with him and are prepared to shell out six-figure sums,’ a source told the newspaper.
‘The Celebrity Traitors has taken Alan’s already brilliant career into the stratosphere.’
