Beloved director Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner were tragically found deceased inside the primary bedroom of their Brentwood, California, home on Sunday, December 14.

Despite its tragic story, the gorgeous estate has a long Hollywood legacy.

Rob Reiner Purchased His Home From Norman Lear

Reiner’s home has become the center of attention following his and wife Michele’s passing.

The couple lived in the home for more than three decades after inadvertently purchasing the home from his former boss, Norman Lear.

Lear was the mastermind behind the iconic sitcom “All in the Family,” on which Reiner got his start in Hollywood.

“I used to go play tennis sometimes at Norman Lear’s house. He had a house in Brentwood. And I used to say all the time…I would go over there, and I used to say, ‘Boy, if ever I get money, if ever I have some money to buy a house, this is the kind of house that I would like,’” the “When Harry Met Sally” director recalled during a 2015 interview with PBS.

He described the home as having “New England Charm” with a “classic look to it.”

According to Reiner, after marrying Singer, she began house hunting while he was working.

“One day she says to me, ‘I think I found something that might be good, you know, I think that we could enjoy.’ And I said, ‘OK, you know, where is it?’ And then she tells me, and I said, ‘Well, wait a minute,’” he reminisced during the PBS interview. “I said, ‘This is Norman Lear’s house. You’re showing me. I spent a lot of time. I know this [house].’”

Singer told her new husband that she knew whose house it was but didn’t want to tell him in case he found it “weird.”

“‘Honey, this is exactly the kind of house that I’ve always wanted,’” he told Singer at the time.

The home, built in 1936, was previously owned by Hollywood legend Henry Fonda—the father of Jane Fonda and Peter Fonda—as well as “Casablanca” actor Paul Henry.

Inside Rob Reiner’s Brentwood Home

Reiner was interviewed for a feature in Interview Magazine in September. The photographer got an inside look at the family’s Brentwood home.

“Rest in peace Rob and Michele Reiner. Feeling unsettled and strange that I was just in their home a few months ago to take these photographs for [Interview Magazine],” Sinna Nasseri shared via Instagram on Thursday, December 18, alongside photos from their day together. “They showed uncommon kindness to me & @negativetoapositive and the whole crew. They had pictures of family everywhere, and Rob was very into the shot in the stairwell where I asked him to raise his arms with an expression of pride.

The “A Few Good Men” director can be seen beaming with pride over his stunning rose garden, in front of the family’s overflowing gallery wall, the refrigerator covered in memories, and in his billiards room.
