What do we know about a third season of The Fortune Hotel (Picture: ITV/Tuesdays Child/Si Johns/Shutterstock)

The Fortune Hotel is almost over for another year, as one lucky couple scoops up the winning briefcase and with it, the jackpot.

The ITV reality series presented by actor Stephen Mangan ships 11 contestants to a luxury resort in the Caribbean, where they are plunged into a high-stakes game of deception.

Throughout the course of their stay (where rooms cost over £1,000 a night), the duos must forge alliances, master the art of betrayal and successfully trick their way into getting their hands on the closed case with the £250,000 prize money.

After averaging 2.5million viewers across season one and completing another successful run this summer, with fans dubbing it their ‘new favourite show’, there is now one question on everyone’s lips.

Will it come back for a third season?

So far, there’s no firm answer, with ITV likely to make a decision now that the show is done for the summer.

In a chat with Metro, the Green Wing star said: ‘They won’t make a decision properly for a bit.’

Reflecting on the feeling the finale leaves fans with, he added: ”Hopefully they’ll be bereft that it’s over. Every episode gets more exciting. Every episode, it’s harder to predict what’s going to happen.

‘There are surprises from the beginning, the first minute till the last. Hopefully, they’ll just be chomping at the bit for season three, is what you hope.’

If the show does make a grand return, and you want to throw your own hat in the ring, then the casting callout will appear on the ITV Be On TV page online, so it’s worth keeping an eye on.

As to whether it would be worth joining a potential new season, the first eliminated couple from this year’s line-up shed some light on the experience.

Friends and cleaning business partners Chelsey and Briony were out early doors when they failed to solve a cryptic crossword quick enough before the contestants had even checked into the hotel.

They remained in high spirits, however, as they told Metro.

‘It weren’t all bad. We can’t really complain. We had an all-inclusive holiday in an absolutely stunning place that not many people would see with your best friend.

‘We got to do things on the island. It was surreal, once in a lifetime,’ Chelsey said.

The Fortune Hotel seasons one and two are available to stream on ITVX.
