At 62, Tom Cruise shows no signs of slowing down. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor declared, “I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s. Actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s.”Â
The statement reflects Cruiseâs continued commitment to acting across multiple genres, from action and adventure to drama and comedy, with no plans to retire from the big screen anytime soon.
What’s Next for Tom Cruise

Cruise is keeping busy with several new projects, including a collaboration with Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu on a psychological thriller titled âJudyâ. The film follows a powerful man on a path to redemption after causing a global catastrophe and is described by Iñárritu as âa brutal, wild comedy of catastrophic proportions.â The ensemble cast includes Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Emma DâArcy, John Goodman, and Riz Ahmed. Filming wrapped in April, with a release date set for Oct. 2, 2026.
Cruise is also returning to familiar territory with plans for Top Gun 3. Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote and produced âTop Gun: Maverickâ, confirmed the next installment is in development. Speaking on the âHappy Sad Confusedâ podcast, he said co-writer Ehren Kruger pitched a strong concept that shaped the story. âIt took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick,â McQuarrie said. âSo all of these things weâre working on, weâre discussing “Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.â
While plot details are still under wraps, the film is expected to build on the success of Maverick, which earned nearly $1.5 billion at the global box office and brought a new generation of fans to the franchise.
Still Pushing the Limits at 62
Cruise recently wrapped filming on âMission: Impossible â The Final Reckoningâ, the final chapter in the long-running spy franchise that helped define his action-star image. Though this marks the end of his run as Ethan Hunt, it does not mark the end of his career. In fact, Cruise appears more energized than ever.
Known for doing his own stunts, Cruise pushed himself once again during the final âMission: Impossible” shoot. He performed a wing-walking stunt on a biplane flying over South Africa â a sequence so demanding he reportedly couldnât lift himself off the wing afterward and had to be pulled up by crew members.
Stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood praised Cruiseâs preparation and mindset, saying the actorâs discipline and attention to detail allow him to perform extreme physical feats well into his 60s. From holding his breath underwater in weighted gear to executing a motorcycle base jump off a cliff, Cruise continues to defy expectations.
Even as he closes one chapter with the âMission: Impossible” series, Cruiseâs latest statements and upcoming projects signal a new era of storytelling. His focus remains on pushing creative boundaries, both physically and emotionally, with no plans of stopping any time soon.
