
Isla Fisher is grieving the death of Sophie Kinsella, the beloved author of the âShopaholicâ series. Kinsella, born Madeleine Sophie Wickham, died earlier today at 55 after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer.
GettyFisher portrayed Rebecca Bloomwood in the 2009 film âConfessions of a Shopaholic,â adapted from Kinsellaâs first two novels. On Instagram Stories, the actress shared a photo from the movieâs 2009 premiere with Kinsella and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, along with a heartfelt tribute.
âDear Sophie,â she wrote. âYou conjured Rebecca Bloomwood, a hilarious, flawed dream of a comic character â and I was lucky enough to step into her shoes and speak your witty & brilliant words.â
Actress Says Her Children Grew Up on Kinsellaâs Books
Fisher also spoke about the impact Kinsellaâs work had on her own family. She noted that her two daughters, whom she shares with ex-husband Sacha Baron Cohen, grew up listening to Kinsellaâs stories and still cherish them.
âMy daughters grew up being read your books and love them to this day. My heart is broken,â she wrote.

News of Kinsellaâs death was shared by her husband, Henry Wickham, and their five children through a statement posted on her social media accounts.
âWe are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy),â the statement read.
âShe died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family, music, warmth, Christmas, and joy.â
They added, âWe can’t imagine what life will be like without her radiance and love of life. Despite her illness, which she bore with unimaginable courage, Sophie counted herself truly blessed â to have such a wonderful family and friends, and to have had the extraordinary success of her writing career. She took nothing for granted and was forever grateful for the love she received. She will be missed so much our hearts are breaking.â
The Shopaholic Legacy & Its Lasting Cultural Impact
Kinsella published 10 novels in the âShopaholicâ series between 2000 and 2019. The first two installments, âThe Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholicâ and âShopaholic Abroad,â became the basis for the 2009 film starring Fisher and Hugh Dancy. The movie, directed by P.J. Hogan, also featured Joan Cusack, John Lithgow and John Goodman.
While early reviews were mixed, âConfessions of a Shopaholicâ went on to earn nearly $110 million worldwide and later developed a cult following.
