Armani died in Milan, Italy, on Thursday, September 4, 2025. The news was shared on Instagram by the Armani Group. He was 91. An outpouring of tributes has followed, with fans and loved ones leaving loving messages on social media.

“Rest in peace Maestro Armani,” a comment reads on the announcement of Armani’s passing. “The maestro who changed the way we dress the world. My deepest condolences to the Armani family and team,” another translated message reads.

Many people want to celebrate Armani, but only a select few will be invited to do so at his funeral.

Details of Armani’s funeral have already been shared. In the post announcing his death, it also revealed his final wishes. “The funeral chamber will be set up from Saturday, September 6th to Sunday, September 7th, and will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., in Milan, at Via Bergognone 59, inside the Armani/Teatro,” the statement reads. “In accordance with Mr. Armani’s explicit wishes, the funeral will be held privately.”


How Milan Will Honor Giorgio Armani

It is unclear who will be invited to celebrate Armani’s life, but many people will choose to do so in their own ways. Milan, one of the fashion capitals of the world and home to Armani, will honor him with a special tribute. The city has declared September 8 a civic day of mourning. Mayor Giuseppe Sala said Armani “was and will always remain one of the greatest representatives of Italian and Milanese fashion worldwide,” CBC reports.

Armani was deeply loved and respected by many. Italian president Sergio Mattarella also reacted to the news of his passing, referring to the designer as “maestro of style and a symbol of Italian creativity,” CBC reports.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also made an emotional statement. “Giorgio Armani leaves us at the age of 91. With his elegance, sobriety, and creativity, he was able to bring lustre to Italian fashion and inspire the entire world,” he said, Reuters reports. “An icon, a tireless worker, a symbol of the best of Italy. Thank you for everything.”
