The Chase viewers were devastated this week as a contestant delivered an epic performance only to fall short.

The team were taking on on Chaser Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan on Wednesday’s episode of the hit ITV quiz show, which is hosted by Bradley Walsh.

Moyra was the first to step up, and managed to rack up an admirable £5,000 in the cash builder.

Her fellow contestants didn’t do quite so well, with Sarah also answering fix questions correctly before getting caught.

Umar was next and got caught too, while Ciaran took the higher offer of £75,000 before getting beat by Jenny after just two questions.

Moyra was the only contestant left playing in the final chase, and she did amazingly as she answered 18 questions correctly.

It’s one of the highest solo scores in the show’s history, but she was caught by the Chaser with just 22 seconds left to go.

‘I had a feeling,’ admitted Jenny. ‘I wouldn’t put anything past Moyra, that was a really great performance.’

Fans were gutted to see her fall at the final hurdle after doing so well as a solo contestant and hitting such a high total on her own.

‘What a shame. Hard lines Moyra. You can hold your head high. Shaun would have let her win that methinks,’ wrote on viewer.

‘Unlucky Moyra, but what a player,’ a second person added, while a third said: ‘Great effort Moyra.’

Another person was less kind to her fellow contestants, as they said: ”Hard luck Moyra, someone with some brains is indeed a rare thing on the chase lately, shame she was lumbered with blithering idiots.’

Others hailed her as ‘exceptional’, while someone else pointed out that she may have done worse if she’d had other teammates with her.

They argued: ”Don’t tell her she needed another player!

‘That’s absolutely what she didn’t need, I bet they would have got less, because of the amount of time lost in pressing the buzzers & they might have buzzed in & passed or got something wrong. Moyra was brilliant, well done.’

It’s one of the show’s all time record scores, while 20-year-old contestant Eden also scored 18 in a solo run to win a huge £75,000 prize.

‘That is the highest ever single win in TV quiz show history – and you’re only 20,’ Bradley said in April 2023.

‘That is brilliant for a 20 year old, amazing, you scored 18 – you have to be happy with that. Extraordinary. Well played.’

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1.
