The James Bond franchise is one of the most notable in the action spy thriller genre. This is so much the case that many fans have made a point to collect the films in various formats. Now, “GoldenEye,” which is the first of the 007 films to feature Pierce Brosnan, is returning to movie theaters.
According to Men’s Journal, the Brosnan-led James Bond movie will be in movie theatres on October 3, which is two days before James Bond Day. This special release marks the 30th anniversary of the now-classic film.
The movie will be shown at Alamo Draft House theaters in 27 cities around the country. Notably, some of the movie theaters will continue to show the “James Bond” movie until October 7.
Brosnan Has an Interest in Appearing in the Upcoming James Bond Movie
Brosnan appeared in four James Bond movies. In addition to “GoldenEye,” he did “Tomorrow Never Dies” in 1997, “The World Is Not Enough” in 1999, and “Die Another Day” in 2002. As fans know, Daniel Craig took over the role after Brosnan.
However, he has expressed openness to appearing in a future film. He told Radio Times in 2025, “My wife Keely [Shaye Smith] and I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who’s going to be the next James Bond.”
He continued, “There are many great candidates out there, and I’m sure they’re going to make it a spectacle of delight.” Regarding the possibility of appearing, the beloved actor said, “If Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat.”
Brosnan continued, “Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?” He also joked about returning as a “senior citizen.”
What We Know About the Upcoming Movie
While it’s unlikely Brosnan will have anything to do with James Bond in the future, a new film has been confirmed. Not only will Amazon MGM Studios produce the film, but Denis Villeneuve has been tapped to direct it. Steven Knight, who created “Peaky Blinders,” will write the film.
According to Deadline, Villeneuve plans to cast an unknown British actor for the iconic role of James Bond. Previously, there were rumors that the role could go to Timothée Chalamet, Glen Powell, Austin Butler, Jacob Elordi, or Aaron Pierre, none of whom are British. Filming for the movie should begin in 2027, after Villeneuve finishes “Dune: Part Three.”
