Jason Momoa Almost Spoiled His Lobo Costume From the New Supergirl Movie

Jason Momoa almost did the unthinkable.

The gargantuan actor is known for his chill tone and down to Earth attitude. He is also a big comic book fan. His dreams of playing his favorite character are finally coming to fruition thanks to James Gunn’s new direction for Warner Bros. DC Comics movies.

However, Momoa was this close to ruining Lobo’s costume while doing a press junket for a separate movie, “A Minecraft Movie,” alongside co-star Jack Black.

The Biggest No-No When It Comes to Comic Book Movies

Cinemablend posted the interaction to its Threads account.

The interviewer asks Momoa about the white makeup the actor has to wear for the costume. Momoa asks him to elaborate about where the makeup will be.

“He wears a lot of armor and stuff sometimes,” the interviewer responds.

“Oh, he has to wear- Yeah. It’s- Yeah, I’m covered,” Momoa says.

The interviewer pushes. “100?”

Momoa gives a definitive “Oh yeah.”

Jack Black, sitting quietly, chimes in with his excitement for his co-stars’ portrayal of the comic character.

“I can’t wait for Lobo,” Black says in a hushed, gravely tone – with emphasis on Lobo’s name.

The interviewer shares his inability to wait too. Black inquires about a cameo appearance.

As if the three were in a school cafeteria showing off dirt bikes, Momoa interjects “I got a little [picture].” Reaching for his phone, he repeats himself, quieter than before – as if to keep it a secret from the rolling cameras and onlookers.

Black begins playing with the enunciation of Lobo while Momoa physically gets up to retrieve his phone.

Suddenly, from the ether (otherside of the camera), Momoa’s publicist shouts “Jason, don’t do it!”

And then the scoop is, sadly, ruined. Director Gunn took the close slip up in stride, thanking the publicist in a Threads post.

Lobo Is All Momoa Ever Wanted

Momoa is incredibly excited to play Lobo. He’s almost ruined the surprise many times.

More recently, he spoke about his new role with Jimmy Kimmel.

“I had every Lobo comic. He was my favorite,” the actor told Kimmel. “I thought I was going to be playing Lobo when Zak Snyder called me.”

Momoa took on the role of Aquaman for a small cameo role in Snyder’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is set to be released on June 26, 2026.
