Jay-Z and Beyoncé are widely considered music’s biggest power couple. The “99 Problems” rapper is one of the all-time greats in his genre, while the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer has given fans so many iconic songs and videos over the years.

From Jay’s lyrics and flow to Bey’s dance moves, fans can’t get enough of the pair. But many don’t realize that one of Queen B’s gestures from one of her most popular videos came courtesy of her husband.

During an appearance on the <a href=”https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=q8L5tfKQ0G4″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Dance Dish podcast, Frank Gatson, who choreographed Beyoncé’s famous “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” music video, talked about how Jay-Z is the one who came up with the hand motion central to the song’s theme.

While mimicking the hand gesture, Gatson told the hosts, “Even this here, right. I didn’t make this upI did. Who made it up? Jay-Z.”

Gatson revealed that Jay made the gesture himself during a conversation the two were having about something women do.

Gatson explained, “One day, we’re sitting just like this. We were talking about what women do when they say, ‘Put a ring on it.’ And he said, ‘They do this,’ and then he did like that.”

Many of Bey’s fans commented that they remember it being mentioned a while back that the hand movement was Jay’s idea, and after Gatson’s admission, he insisted, “So, he should get that credit.”

The longtime choreographer also shared that “Single Ladies” is a tribute to “Bob Fosse’s choreography,” saying that it “strongly inspired the music video’s choreography in a 1960s project titled Mexican Breakfast starring Gwen Verdon. That’s where ‘Single Ladies’ is from … that’s the reference that we used. I showed it to Beyoncé years before ‘Single Ladies’ and she remembered it.”

In addition to Beyoncé, Gatson has worked with other great artists, including En Vogue, Toni Braxton, and Michael Jackson.

He told <a href=”https://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1907409_1907413_1907554,00.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Time that his gig with Jackson was his first dancing job, recalling, “The first time I met Michael was when I danced in the video for ‘Smooth Criminal,’ and for some reason I remember his fingernails, because they were so well manicured. That was my first job in L.A. as a dancer. And it was the most amazing job — I made $10,000 because the job was for three months. Just the dance section. Isn’t that something?

“There were, like, 40 dancers on the job. You know the scene in “Smooth Criminal” when he gets on the table? I’m standing right there because they wanted me to spot him, so if he fell, I would catch him. And he would never fall.”

Gatson added, “Most people, when they’re rehearsing a dance movement, they don’t do it full-out. Michael would always do everything to the fullest in rehearsal. He would do it like he was onstage, every time. And as a dancer, you would be like, ‘Why is he doing it that hard?’ Every chromosome worked the minute he moved … He danced like every chromosome was working, right there … he gave everything he had.”
