Jeff Bridges Shares Update After Overcoming Two Major Health Scares

Jeff Bridges says he’s doing well while in remission from his 2020 lymphoma diagnosis. “I’m feeling good … some things, it’s hard to tell if it’s the cancer and the COVID or if it’s just old age,” he told People on May 9.

However, he told the publication that he believes COVID-19 gave him a long-lasting side effect. “I can’t smell. My wife laughs at me, she says, ‘I haven’t showered in days. You can’t smell?’ Some positive sides to it, I suppose. Although I don’t mind her smell,” he said.

Bridges opened up about getting COVID in a March 2021 post on his website. “My 9×12 tumor has shrunk to a 2×2 thing. BUT … here’s the deal. On January 7, I get a letter from the place where I’m getting my chemo infusion for the cancer.”

“The letter tells me I may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus [at] their joint. Soon after, my wife Sue and I share an ambulance to the ICU. We both got the ‘Roma,’” he continued.

Bridges shared that he spent five weeks in the hospital because of his compromised immune system from battling cancer but shared a positive message to fans.

“Life is brief and beautiful. Love is all around us and available [at] all times,” he wrote.

Bridges Worried About His Career While Dealing with Health Issues

Jeff Bridges told AARP in June 2023 that he was afraid for his acting career while fighting to overcome cancer and COVID-19.

“I didn’t think I’d ever work again, really. So at first I said, ‘Well, we’ll see.’ But eventually that became, ‘Maybe I can.’ I have to admit that I was still frightened of going back to work. Then I began to think of it as a gift being presented,” he said.

The “Crazy Heart” star added, “To get back to doing what invigorates you—it feels great, man. I’m feeling that the times are demanding us to be as creative as possible. We should all work together to make something beautiful, like we do in the movies.”

Bridges’ Career is Still Going Strong

Despite being scared that his career would halt amid his illnesses, Bridges remained active in Hollywood with his FX series “The Old Man,” which premiered in 2022.

The drama follows a CIA operative named Dan Chase, played by Bridges, who goes on the lam after killing an assassin who breaks into his house.

“The Old Man” ran for two seasons before getting canceled, but Bridges is returning to the big screen as Kevin Flynn for “Tron: Ares,” which will premiere on October 10, 2025.
