Jennifer Aniston is showing Jimmy Kimmel love after the Tuesday, September 23 return of his show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The “Friends” star took to her Instagram Stories to share a repost of a shot from the late night host’s account that shows him walking underneath a lit up “On Air” sign. Aniston captioned the post with a simple heart emoji to show her support.
The actress has been a guest on “Kimmel” multiple times, and Parade says she has also been “good friends for more than a decade” with the comedian. After the show’s suspension on Wednesday, September 17, Aniston joined over 400 other celebrities to sign an open letter sticking up for Kimmel and championing free speech on television.
Jimmy Kimmel Returned With Good-Natured Monologue
Ahead of Kimmel’s big comeback, he and his longtime sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, comically pretended to have planned a totally different opener as they appeared dressed in banana and monkey costumes. “Maybe we should change?” they playfully joked after viewing news clips calling the moment “the most anticipated monologue in late night.”
Kimmel received a standing ovation as he walked onto the stage. He talked about the importance of being able to share his opinions, saying, “This show is not important, but what’s important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this,” he told fans. He then referenced talk show hosts from other places he says have told him they would get “thrown in prison” for making fun of those in power.
“Our freedom to speak is what they admire most about this country. And that’s something I’m embarrassed to say I took for granted until they pulled my friend Stephen off the air,” he explained, referencing announcement by CBS that “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” will end in May 2026 when Colbert’s contract is up. The New York Times says Colbert’s farewell season kicked off in July.
He then called efforts to coerce local affiliates to take his own show off the air “un-American.” One fan commented on YouTube that they still can’t view the show on local TV, writing, “I never thought I’d be unable to watch a TV show in this country, but tonight my local ABC station in East Tennessee, owned by Nexstar, is not showing Jimmy Kimmel Live. It’s blatant censorship. And outrageous. Good to have you back, Jimmy.”
