Jennifer Love Hewitt is finally opening up about her rumored feud with her âI Know What You Did Last Summerâ co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar. âI honestly donât even know what that was or how that all came to be,â Hewitt told Vulture, suggesting there was never any bad blood in the first place.
The supposed drama between the two actors was fueled by a red carpet interview Gellar gave in December 2024 in which she spoke about the âIKWYDLSâ sequel. When asked whether Hewitt would be returning, Gellar just shrugged and replied, âI have nothing to do with that.â
Ahead of the sequelâs July premiere, Hewitt explained, âI havenât seen Sarah,â adding, âLiterally, weâve not talked since Iâ¯saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out.â
Regarding Gellarâs perceived brush-off, Hewitt said she was encouraged to address it sooner, but had nothing to say. âPeople were like, âSay something back.â And Iâm like, âWhat am I going to say? Iâve not seen her.â On my side, weâre good,â the actor assured.
What Happened at the Filmâs Premiere?
When asked by Vulture if Hewitt would talk to Gellar at the premiere of âI Know What You Did Last Summer,â she responded, âI hope so.â
However, it seems the two women did not end up crossing paths. Gellar took to Instagram to post photos from the event and shouted out various co-stars and others connected to the movie, but left Hewitt out.
The omission did not go unnoticed by fans, and Gellar made a point to address it in the comments of her post. âFor everyone asking – I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie,â she wrote. âI was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didnât come to the after party.â
Hewitt Admired Gellar From the Start
According to Hewitt, filming the first installment of âIKWYDLSâ in 1997 was a daunting experience. She admitted that she was very frightened of scary movies, and she also felt pressure to nail the role of Julie James. âI was in my head the whole time thinking, âDo not screw this up,ââ Hewitt revealed.
Working alongside Gellar was a bit intimidating too, as she had already won audiences over with âBuffy the Vampire Slayer.â But Hewitt wasnât envious. She was looking to emulate Gellarâs confidence. âI was like, âOkay, I have to watch how sheâs comfortable, and Iâm going to sit like that,ââ the actor explained.
As for how the rumblings of a feud between she and Gellar began, Hewitt chalked it up to the mediaâs tendency to pit women against each other. âI just think people donât want the narrative to be easy,â Hewitt said. âWhy do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?â
