Jensen Ackles is back in action, and this time, he’s trading in his supernatural hunting gear for a badge in Prime Video’s upcoming crime thriller, “Countdown.” The series is set to premiere on June 25, 2025, with the first three episodes dropping immediately, followed by weekly releases through September 3, 2025 (Deadline).

A High-Stakes Mission Begins

In “Countdown,” Ackles stars as LAPD officer Mark Meachum, who is drawn into a covert task force investigating a suspicious murder that hints at a larger, more sinister conspiracy threatening the city, per TV Insider. The show’s ensemble cast includes Jessica Camacho as DEA Special Agent Amber Oliveras, Eric Dane as FBI Special Agent Nathan Blythe, Violett Beane as tech-savvy FBI recruit Evan Shepherd, Uli Latukefu as LAPD veteran Lucas Finau, and Elliot Knight as third-generation FBI agent Keyonte Bell.

According to Deadline, the series is the brainchild of Derek Haas, known for his work on the “One Chicago” franchise and “FBI: International.” Haas brings his signature blend of action and drama to “Countdown,” promising a gripping narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.​

Behind the Scenes: A Glimpse into the Action

Filming for “Countdown” commenced in Los Angeles in September 2024 and wrapped up in March 2025 (Collider). Ackles shared behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, showcasing moments with co-stars Violett Beane and Uli Latukefu, and expressing his enthusiasm for the project by saying, “We are well on our way here and having a blast.”

Ackles also hinted at the possibility of a second season, stating, “I’ll see you all for season 2 ,” in another post. In this one he also mentioned that “Season 1 [was] complete” and thanked the crew for the “wonderful experience.”

The series marks Ackles’ return to a leading role following his 15-year stint as Dean Winchester on “Supernatural.” He has also made appearances as Sheriff Beau Arlen in “Big Sky,” as Soldier Boy in “The Boys,” and as Russell Shaw in “Tracker.”
