Jeremy Clarkson reveals ‘£50 per mouthful’ food helping him lose weight

Jeremy Clarkson shared his expensive dieting trick after swearing off Ozempic.

The Grand Tour star, 64, explained that he started using the Hollywood weight loss drug two years ago but suffered poor side effects including vomiting (he called himself a ‘bulimic version of Henry VIII’) and putting on ‘half a stone’.

He then switched to the Mounjaro, a weight-loss injection approved by the NHS and colloquially known as Muntjac which he is ‘currently microdosing’ that has decreased his appetite.

‘When you are on Muntjac, you can come down in the morning and idly help yourself to a small handful of sunflower seeds. And it’ll feel like you’ve just finished a massive Christmas lunch. You’re stuffed,’ he said in his column in The Times.

As a result, one of the food items that he has been eating is caviar which would ordinarily cost him ‘thousands and thousands of pounds’.

He added: ‘But in my current condition it’s moreish no more, so I can make a tiny 100g tin last for a week.’

And it’s the same with his latest snack, snail caviar, which is the fresh or processed eggs of land snails harvested in Austria, Czechia, France and Poland.

According to the non-profit agricultural organisation, Modern Farmer, snail caviar can cost anywhere between $1,900 (£1,468)- such as Merlino’s caviale di lumaca – to $3,000 (£2,318) per kilogram.

There are (slightly) cheaper brands as well. One website is selling snail caviar at £62 per pot which totals to £1,240 per kilogram.

As for Jeremy, he shared exactly what was so delicious about it.

He said: ‘Weirdly it does taste and feel like the real deal. So you can pop a teaspoon of that onto half a Ritz cracker and you have yourself the 21st century’s answer to a mediaeval banquet.’

Then continued: ‘Cost? It’s a lot. I think I’m right in saying it’s the only foodstuff on earth that is more expensive than cocaine.

‘And normally it takes the sheen off the dining experience when you know that each mouthful is costing you £50. But when that mouthful is a meal, it’s not so bad.’

The focus on his health comes after he underwent a heart procedure last year following a ‘sudden deterioration’ in his health. This involved having a stent fitted after doctors discovered one of his arteries was ‘completely blocked.

In October he shared his woe at having to completely transform his lifestyle after the operation.

‘Literally, I am not allowed to have fun any more. This is terrifying,’ he wrote in The Sun at the time.

‘The worst problem though is diet. To cut my alarmingly high levels of cholesterol, I need to cut out, completely, everything I like eating,’ he explained in his column.

‘Bacon, sausages, beef, lamb, pork, butter, chips, proper milk, Cadbury’s fruit and nut bars and the interesting bit in an egg.

‘I’ve had a week now to live in the new regime and it’s horrific. Have you ever tried kale? Well, don’t, because it’s like eating the contents of a AAA battery.’

The Clarkson’s Farm star has officially stepped back from Prime’s Grand Tour series alongside longtime co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond.

And there is already chatter over his potential replacement with TikToker and train enthusiast, Francis Bourgeois, 24, coming in as a frontrunner to take over.

‘Francis is a big noise online and Amazon producers are hoping to bring him into the mainstream.

‘He is loved by everyone – from royals to rappers – and is sure to be a hit with Grand Tour viewers.

‘Francis is not just a social media sensation but trained as a mechanical engineer so knows his stuff,’ a source told The Sun.
