Jessie J ‘frustrated’ over breast cancer update after cancelling tour

Jessie J has been left ‘frustrated’ after revealing a scheduled breast cancer surgery has had to be postponed.

In June the singer, 37, revealed she’d been diagnosed with ‘early breast cancer’ a few months earlier.

At the time Jessie – real name Jessica Ellen Cornish – said she was set to ‘disappear’ for a bit to undergo a mastectomy, later announcing she was forced to postpone a tour after it clashed with another surgery.

However, a few months on, she’s now explained that the surgery has now been delayed.

‘Some of you may know, some of you may not know, I was supposed to have a second breast surgery two weeks ago,’ she said

‘So, a week before my surgery I went to my surgeon and we discussed my surgery and it felt a little more complex than he was anticipating and referred me to a different surgeon who I then saw, had a meeting with who said: I think this can wait a little while.

‘Obviously, I’d already cancelled my tour, so I was obviously frustrated but again it’s out of my control and two different surgeons had two different opinions.’

However, Jessie went on to share that she was trying to remain positive, adding she is now able to rebook tour dates for the United States and Canada, which are due to kick off in January.

Jessie’s early diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) allowed her to avoid chemo and radiotherapy, but the large size of her tumour (5cm), required a full mastectomy.

Although she received the all-clear in August, she later said she was feeling ‘cautiously confident’ but still needed another surgery and ‘to heal’. 

When revealing her diagnosis publicly, Jessie explained that while ‘cancer sucks in any form’, she was grateful it had been caught early.

‘I just wanted to be open and share it because selfishly, I do not talk about it enough,’ she went on.

‘I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories.

‘I’m an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much. Similar and worse.’

She went on to joke it was a ‘dramatic way to get a boob job’.

Jessie’s breast cancer diagnosis came as she kicked off her music comeback after three years without releasing new music.

Her next album, Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time, is due to be released on November 28.
