Jillian Michaels isn’t holding back.
Michaels, who declined to participate in Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser, strenuously denied suggestions that she planned to profit off of contestants’ weight loss stories, that she fed cast members unauthorized caffeine pills, and that she encouraged people to severely restrict calories to lose weight.

Fit for TV features interviews with producers and former contestants on the NBC reality show, as well as with trainer Bob Harper and medical expert Dr. Robert Huizenga.

The three-episode docuseries addresses allegations that Biggest Loser contestants were given contraband caffeine pills (and possibly other substances) to jumpstart their weight loss and that they were encouraged to eat as little as 800 calories a day by their trainers.

“With respect to the allegation that I restricted contestants from eating enough calories: I have an example of a direct written correspondence with a contestant, while she was home for the holidays during filming, in which I explicitly instructed her to consume 1,600 calories per day,” Michaels wrote in one of a series of <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DNi3TDhJLt8/?hl=en&img_index=1″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram posts on August 19.

She also shared screenshots of emails she wrote to the show’s producers and medical staff “emphasizing the ongoing priority of ensuring contestants were adequately nourished and the need to provide a steady supply of fresh food in the BL house to guarantee ready access to calories.”

Michaels also said that Huizenga “did approve” the use of caffeine pills “on many seasons of Biggest Loser” and that Harper was also aware they were being given to contestants.

“Wild how some folks still lie like it’s 1985 before texts and email were a thing,” she wrote.

As for the doc’s claim that Michaels told one winner during the finale that he was going to make her rich, she says that’s just not true.

“In response to the claim in the documentary that I told a contestant at the show’s finale, “’You’re going to make me a millionaire,’ I want to state unequivocally that this is false,” she wrote. “The full moment was captured on camera, and both the contestant and I were wearing microphones. If such a comment had been made, it would exist on the audio record.”

Fit for TV also touches on season 15 contestant Rachel Fredrickson’s controversial victory. In 2014, she won the show’s $250,000 prize after losing 155 pounds, weighing in at just 105 pounds in the finale. Michaels looked visibly shocked and disturbed by Fredrickson’s dramatic weight loss. (Fredrickson does not appear in Fit for TV.)

On Instagram, Michaels clarified that she did not personally work with Fredrickson on the show. But she says she did raise “serious concerns both publicly and to NBC directly about contestant health and the condition of Rachel in particular at BL’s Season 15 finale.”

Rather than listening to her concerns, Michaels says higher ups at NBC told her to fall in line, or else. She shared the text of what she says in an email for the then-Chairman of NBC Entertainment where “he made clear that if I did not publicly condone the appearance of contestant Rachel Frederickson at the show’s finale, NBC would pursue legal action against me. I resigned from The Biggest Loser shortly thereafter.”

Michaels – who told <a href=”https://www.tmz.com/2025/08/19/jillian-michaels-interview-documentary-lawsuit/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TMZ she’s considering suing Netflix over the documentary – also explained why she did not participate in Fit for TV.

“I knew it would be a hit piece,” she wrote in the comments of one of her posts. She said that a Netflix executive who previously worked on the show at NBC was behind the series. “Given that I knew exactly what the intentions of this documentary were going to be,” she wrote.
