The actress marked the occasion on Aug. 2 with a glamorous photo shoot on the beaches of Malibu, capturing the elegance, joy, and bold spirit thatâs defined her decades-long career.
âI Feel No Different Than When I Was 30â
In a candid chat with People, Cassidy reflected on aging and shared her surprisingly youthful mindset.
“No different than when I was 30, quite honestly,” she said. “Time is an illusion! I’m very aware of the fact that it’s passing very quickly, but it’s sort of nothing. I just say, ‘Go day by day.’
While she admits hitting 80 didnât exactly thrill her, Cassidy is taking the milestone in stride.
“I can’t say I’m excited about the number,” she said honestly. “Otherwise it’s just another adventure, another decade.”

Cassidy made an honest reflection on her life and told people, “My mind is still open to learning how to be a good person. And every time I find another instance where I can be that, I just feel better. I know that has to do with your DNA, your all-around cellular health.”
Cassidy & Alan Hamel Reunited After 50 Years
Cassidy and her partner, Alan Hamel, quietly stepped into the spotlight as a couple earlier this summer, and their love story is one for the books. Hamel calls their reconnection nothing short of âa miracle.â
“We met over 50 years ago. Joanna was a guest on my show in Canada, and that was in the late ’70s, I think,â he recalls to People.
âThe next time I saw her, she was doing a major mini-series with Suzanne and Anthony Hopkins. And then I didn’t see her again until a few months ago.”
Now, decades later, the pair have found each other again, and Hamel couldnât be more grateful.
“We connected, and I’m happy that we connected. She’s a great woman. The thing is that she will help anybody to do anything. She’s amazing that way,” he says.
With love by her side, turning 80 feels less like a finish line and more like a beautiful new beginning for Joanna Cassidy.
