John Stamos Honors Late Dad in Heartbreaking Birthday Tribute: ‘I Still Hear Your Voice Guiding Me’

John Stamos tribute to late father

John Stamos is paying tribute to the man who shaped his life. The “Full House” star shared a touching message on Instagram in honor of his late father William John Stamos’ birthday, describing him as his “hero” and “best friend.”

“Happy heavenly birthday, Dad,” Stamos began. “You were my hero, my best friend, and the greatest example of what it means to be a man. Everything good I try to be started with you—the way you treated people, the way you showed up, the way you loved Mom and our family without ever needing to say a word.”

A Son Carrying His Father’s Legacy

Stamos reflected on how his father’s influence continues to shape his life and parenting. “Even though you’re gone, I still hear your voice guiding me—in my heart, in my hands, in how I try to be a father to my own son,” he wrote.

The actor, who shares 6-year-old Billy with wife Caitlin McHugh, added, “Every time Billy laughs, asks a question, or looks up at me for guidance, I feel you right there, reminding me what matters most: show up, be kind, work hard, love deeply.”

Fans Send Him Love

One comment read: “You look so very much like him! God bless him🙏🏻. And you John❤️”

Another comment read: “Happy Birthday❤️you are his double!”

A third one chimed in and wrote: “he’s so proud of you, John ❤️”

“He raised a great man!” wrote another fan.

Another admirer wrote: “What a lovely tribute. I understand the loss of parents. Never goes away. That’s the song I recently sang as a tribute to my mom, who’s been gone 10 years. The songs have new meaning, it’s why in my 50s I started singing. May your parents’ memory be for a blessing.”

A Bond That Time Couldn’t Break

Stamos has long been open about the special bond he shared with his parents. After his father’s passing in 1998, he also lost his mother, Loretta Stamos, in 2014. “They taught me to be kind and to be generous and to be loving to everyone that you meet on this journey,” he once said at the TV Land Icon Awards.

In 2018, Stamos posted another tribute, writing, “17 years ago I lost my best friend. Dad, I appreciate you right now more than ever.”

Now a father himself, Stamos says his son helps keep his parents’ memory alive. “Miss you every day, Pop,” he ended his tribute. “Hope you’re smiling down today. I’m still trying to make you proud.”
