“Oppenheimer” and “The Virgin Suicides” actor Josh Hartnett is back at work and in good spirits after being briefly hospitalized following a police car collision in Canada. The 47-year-old actor was quickly released from the hospital and cleared to return to filming, reassuring fans about his recovery.
Hartnettâs representative, Susan Patricola, confirmed to USA TODAY that he was âlooked at and then released back to work,â noting that the star is doing well and continuing with production as planned.
Collision With Police Car Leaves Three Hospitalized
CBC reported that, according to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the crash happened just before 1 a.m. on September 25 in St. Johnâs, Newfoundland. Hartnett was a passenger in an SUV that collided with a patrol car.
Page Six reported that Police confirmed the accident caused âsignificant damage to both vehicles.â A 59-year-old driver, Hartnett, and the police officer were taken to the hospital. Hartnett and the driver were treated for what were believed to be minor injuries, while the officer was admitted for observation as a precaution.

Despite the incident, Hartnettâs work schedule has not been disrupted. The actor is currently filming a Netflix limited series created by Jesse McKeown, which began production in August. The six-episode show is being filmed in Newfoundland. Hartnett also recently appeared in M. Night Shyamalanâs 2024 thriller “Trap” and had a role on the hit series “The Bear.” IMDb describes his latest project as revolving around a âmysterious sea creature.â
Balancing Work and Family Life
Outside of his career, Hartnett has kept his personal life relatively private. He has been married to actress Tamsin Egerton since 2021, and the couple shares four children. Earlier this year, Hartnett spoke about fatherhood, calling it his greatest joy.
While recovering from the accident, Hartnett appeared in good spirits. He even joked about his film “Fight or Flight,” writing on social media, âMe promoting my film before ghosting social media for another 10 years.â
With his health stable and his projects moving forward, fans are relieved to see Hartnett back at work and doing well.
