Kathy Griffin is spilling the tea about her many appearances on âThe Viewâ and shared that she was once offered a full-time spot on the show. On an episode of her YouTube series âTalk Your Head Off With Kathy Griffin,â the comedian revealed that âThe Viewâ offered her $1.4 million to co-host, but it just wasnât enough.
With her signature candor, Griffin went on to explain that taking on the job would have meant taking a financial hit. âI am just going to be honest, I had to turn it down because at the time between doing âMy Life on the D-Listâ and touring I was making about 10 [million dollars] a year.”
Griffin added that she lived in Los Angeles at the time and âThe Viewâ taped its shows in New York. Her parents, who have since passed away, were a big part of her world, and she wasnât willing to risk it all for the show. “I had to turn down âThe Viewâ because I would have had to uproot my whole life,” she said.
No Room for Negotiations
Griffin has always been a huge fan of âThe View,â something she acknowledged on her show.
“I really respect those women for going on that show day in and day out because they know there’s blowback,” she said of its hosts, adding, â…to this day, âThe Viewâ is one of the most buzzworthy shows on television or anywhere.”
Griffin said she tried to make the full-time hosting gig happen, but the powers that be were not willing to negotiate. âI think I might have said something like, ‘Can you meet me halfway?’ And they didn’t,â Griffin revealed.Â
Barbara Waltersâ Reaction to Kathy Griffin Saying No to âThe Viewâ

Griffin and the late Barbara Walters, a revered journalist and longtime host of âThe View,â always appeared to have a love-hate relationship with one another. â…I loved her and she couldnât stand me,â Griffin shared.
Many of Griffinâs appearances on âThe Viewâ included her giving Walters a hard time, something Griffin and audiences found funny. But in truth, Griffin had a ton of respect for Walters.
When the comedian had to make a decision about taking on a full-time seat on the daytime show, she pulled Walters aside and told her why she had to say no.
Griffin said she explained her financial situation to Walters, even offering to show her tax returns, but Walters was unmoved. “She did not like that one bit,” the comedian said. “She didn’t care.â
