Katy Perry slammed for hurling entire birthday cake at crew as Justin Trudeau looks on

There are many ways to mark turning 41: Some people book a spa weekend, some invest in a juicer, or, if you’re Katy Perry, you decide to hurl an entire birthday cake across the room while your boyfriend, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, looks on.

In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, the singer celebrated backstage during her Lifetimes tour.

After blowing out the candles on her cake, Perry appeared to have a brief, private conversation with chaos itself.

Then, with Olympic-grade aim, she picked up the cake and launched it at a crew member.

The crew member ducked like George Bush ducking those infamous shoes, and the cake met its fate on the floor.

Perry, cackling, watched as her dancers approached the carnage and began picking up handfuls to eat—the whole spectacle had a decidedly uncomfortable Marie Antoinette undertone.

In the background, Trudeau looked on, wearing the facial expression of a man who knows how to look pleasantly Canadian through political scandal and buttercream disaster alike.

The internet, naturally, had thoughts.

‘My mom was the one that baked this cake, she was so excited about the opportunity to make a cake for Katy Perry and spent so long on it,’ wrote @katherinejaayne. ‘I’m genuinely confused and upset as to why she would do this.’

Meanwhile, @new_avid took a more existential approach: ‘Katy Perry’s team surprised her with a birthday cake and she straight up threw the whole thing at someone, wasting it all… this woman is actually pathetic 😭💀.’

Others took aim (pun intended) at Perry’s alleged lack of self-awareness.

‘A grown 41-year-old woman not caring about the person who will clean up her mess & the person who put hard work into making that cake,’ tweeted @gerrygaga28.

And then there was @BuditArtpop, who delivered the blunt-force verdict: ‘Katy Perry is so cringed 😬. Everything she does is so cringed. This is one of those cringed things she does. Why do you throw that cake and ask your workers to eat the cake that is already on the floor? This is disgusting 🤮.’

For others, it was the symbolism of the act that stung. ‘Katy Perry celebrates her 41st birthday by pointlessly destroying a beautiful cake,’ lamented @CatchUpFeed.

@ProfnetOfficial added: ‘Like, someone took the time to make that cake with love and she just throws it on the floor? and she thought she was cool ofc.’

But not everyone was ready to join the frosting fury. ‘There are actual things you can be mad at Katy Perry about but wasting a birthday cake should not be one of them,’ countered @ansamenow. ‘Please get a grip 😭.’

Still, the optics of a millionaire tossing dessert while your mom’s rent just went up are… not ideal.

And as the frosting dries and the discourse cools, one question remains: Did Justin Trudeau eat any of the floor cake?

The I Kissed A Girl singer and the former Canadian Prime Minister were first linked in late July, when they were seen enjoying what appeared to be a romantic dinner in Montreal.

They were then spotted in a passionate embrace aboard a luxury yacht in California, and most recently, snapped holding hands during a romantic trip to Paris.

In photos obtained by TMZ, they were spotted looking cosy after visiting a cabaret show at the Crazy Horse in the capital.

After bringing her Lifetimes tour to London’s O2 Arena last week, Perry appeared to address her budding romance.

Addressing the crowd, she said: ‘London, England, you’re like this on a Monday night after a whole day at work and a whole day at school?

‘No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time…but not anymore,’ she said, as per The Sun.
