Keke Palmer Talks Dating Double Standards, Heartbreak, and Uplifting Other Women

Keke Palmer is continuing to keep it real. In a recent interview on “Bevy Smith’s Radio Andy” show, Palmer opened up about the scrutiny women face for dating men with lower incomes, challenging the double standards often placed on successful women, per HOT 97 report.

“Nobody cares if a man finds his woman under a bridge,” she said. “Why do we have to deal with that?”

Palmer made it clear that financial status isn’t her priority in a relationship. “Let me tell you one thing that Keke don’t need; money,” she stated. “It’s about love, it’s about respect.” She added that many fans agreed when she previously said women don’t need to date within their “tax bracket,” clarifying, “Just because someone isn’t a millionaire doesn’t mean they’re broke… do what works for you.”

Palmer’s remarks added to a larger conversation about relationship norms and how success is viewed differently for women, especially in the public eye.

Palmer Says Breakup Fueled New Music and Personal Growth

In a separate appearance on “The Breakfast Club”, Palmer opened up about her breakup with the father of her son, Darius Jackson. She revealed that her new album, “Just Keke”, was heavily inspired by the emotional highs and lows of the relationship.

Palmer described how difficult it was to date someone outside of the spotlight. “It brings a dynamic that you can’t explain unless you’ve experienced it,” she explained.

Their relationship made headlines in 2023 after Jackson publicly criticized one of Palmer’s outfits. The situation escalated when Palmer filed for sole custody of their son and a restraining order, which was later dropped. Reflecting on the public nature of their split, she said, “That’s not what I want people to see.”

Still, Palmer has no regrets about her journey. “At the end of the day…I’m never going to not be Keke Palmer,” she said. Tracks like “My Confession” explore themes of heartbreak, healing, and self-reflection.

Spirit Award Honor Highlights a Moment of Sisterhood

Just days before her radio interviews, Palmer was honored at the Fifth Annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards on June 20 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. She received the Spirit Award, which recognizes creatives who inspire through their work and presence in culture.

The night delivered a standout moment when fellow actress Meagan Good came onstage to present Palmer with the award. Instead of jumping into her speech, Palmer paused to thank Good directly.

“I want to give Meagan her flowers,” she said, expressing gratitude for Good’s impact and legacy as a fellow former child star and Black actress in the industry.

The moment quickly stood out as one of the night’s most heartfelt exchanges, underscoring Palmer’s message of community, inspiration, and honoring those who came before her.
