Kim Kardashian turned heads by covering her face at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on October 18, 2025. The event was held to honor several celebrities, including Penélope Cruz with the Icon Award, Bruce Springsteen with the Legacy Award, and Bowen Yang with the Vantage Award, per Vogue.

Wearing Maison Margiela couture, Kardashian’s jaw-dropping look was a “last-minute” decision, she told Variety, admitting her makeup artist probably wouldn’t be happy with her for covering her face.

Because it was difficult to see through her face cover, Kardashian required help getting to the spot where she and other celebrities posed for photographers. Her head was fully enveloped in nude fabric, which was tucked inside a stunning, three-tier diamond necklace.

Telling Variety her look was by designer Glenn Martens for Maison Margiela, she said, “You know, I love Margiela. I flew in my favorite makeup artist Mario from New York, and this is kind of a last-minute thing, so I’m sure he’s not so happy with it.”

That’s right — Kardashian had her makeup and hair fully done before covering it all with the fabric mask. But the billionaire entrepreneur thought the nude look gave a subtle nod to her own shapewear line, SKIMS.

“It does look very SKIMS-y,” Kardashian told Variety. “That’s why I was drawn to it when the Margiela couture show came out. I saw this look and I was like, ‘That is so SKIMS to me.’”

Kardashian did tell Variety she planned to remove her face cover once inside for the gala, so she could hobnob with fellow stars, including her own sisters, Kendall Jenner, who showed up for the gala in a black sleeveless gown.

Viola Davis, stunning in royal blue Gucci, told Variety she’s feeling good at 60, declaring, “There’s freedom in turning 60. I’m like, ‘Wow! I made it this point! I’ve earned it, I’ve earned my opinions, I’ve earned my peace, I’ve earned my soul. So I’m gonna take up space.”

Charlie XCX stepped out in all-black Saint Laurent, per Just Jared, and Kaia Gerber wore a custom white lace gown and cape by Givenchy, the outlet reported.

The star-studded affair also included guests such as Jon Hamm, Jennifer Hudson, Selena Gomez with her new husband Benny Blanco, Ed Sheeran, and Olivia Rodriguo. No word yet if any of them saw Kim Kardashian’s face make an appearance at the bash.
