Kim Kardashian has praised her daughter, North West, after the 12-year-old faced backlash over her ‘disturbing’ outfits.
North tried out a range of different Halloween costumes and posted them on the joint TikTok account she shares with her Mum, called Kim and North.
But one costume in particular, described by Kim, 44, as ‘opium Powerpuff Girls’, caused some controversy online.
The 12-year-old, whose Dad is rapper Kanye West, was wearing fake tattoos and piercings, wore a black grill in her mouth, and had blue contact lenses in her eyes.
In a YouTube episode of Complex’s GOAT Talk series, Kim told All’s Fair co-star Niecy Nash-Betts that comments online had called North’s look ‘disturbing’ and ‘horrible’.
Seemingly, North was confused at the outraged response as Kim explained how North took her phone to write back at a comment: ‘This is such a non-issue’.
As Kim laughed with Niecy, 55, she explained how people assumed it was her: ‘Then online, it was like, “Kim defends North to the end on this look”.’
The Disney stars were originally discussing what is the ‘GOAT [greatest of all time] clapback to haters?’.
Niecy said of North’s comment: ‘Imma put that one in my bag of tricks.’
The comment appeared under a Daily Mail Australia TikTok, according to the Daily Mail. The post led with the headline: ‘North West, 12, worries fans with new look.’
Kim explained North’s reaction: ‘And she was like, “I don’t get it, it’s like a Halloween costume, like it’s all fake.”‘
It was then that the tween took matters into her own hands: ‘So she takes my phone, and she writes back to a comment.’
It wouldn’t be the first time North’s outfits have been criticised as when she was in Rome with her mum in August, her outfit caused a stir.
North wore a corseted top, long blue hair, a skirt and chunky boots, leading to comments that the pre-teen was dressed too old for her age.
At the time, fans flocked to social media to defend the mother of four and her eldest child as some dubbed the clothes ‘inappropriate’.
Kim explained the rules to Niecy: ‘North, if she ever posts a TikTok, it’s on my phone, so she has to ask my approval, and then I post it, whatever.
‘So the comments, all that’s on my phone.’
The bio for Kim and North’s joint account explains how it’s ‘managed by an adult’ — hence where the confusion over the comment came from.
The pair have 19.3million followers on the platform, with each video getting millions of views.
North posts mainly with her friends, and sometimes her Mum. Currently, comments are off on their channel.
