Kirsten Dunst Had the Perfect Answer About a ‘Bring it On’ Sequel

Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst just reminded us that not everything needs a reboot. And to be honest, we get it. Hollywood may be deep in its remake era, but sometimes the smarter move is leaving the classics alone. At a screening of her new movie “Roofman” on Monday, September 8, 2025 she was asked by Entertainment Tonight if she’d ever dust off her pom-poms and return as Torrance in a “Bring It On” sequel. Spoiler alert: she’s not here for it.

What Kirsten Dunst Said

Dunst didn’t miss a beat when the question came up. “No. I’m like, leave good things where they are… I don’t need to put on a cheerleading outfit,” she told ET, shutting down the idea before it could even get off the ground. And let’s be real, that’s about as iconic an answer as you could hope for.

She doubled down with a little tongue-in-cheek humor, adding, “I don’t even know what I would do — be a coach or something? Nah. Let’s leave it as is.” Translation? She’s not signing up to boss around a new generation of Toros anytime soon.

It’s classic Dunst… short, sharp, and funny. And to be fair, it feels less like a rejection of the movie and more like a nod to just how well it already works on its own.

The Legacy of Torrance and the Toros

Released in 2000, “Bring It On” flipped the script on what could’ve been a fluffy teen comedy. Dunst’s Torrance Shipman took over the Rancho Carne High squad, only to find out their winning routines were stolen from the East Compton Clovers led by Isis (Gabrielle Union). Cue the rivalry, the competition, and the unforgettable cheers that live rent-free in fans’ heads.

Directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jessica Bendinger, the movie also starred Eliza Dushku and Jesse Bradford. What should’ve been a one-and-done teen flick became a cultural moment… one that’s still getting love 25 years later.

Fans Are Still Quoting It

A single look at this r/nostalgia/ Reddit thread is basically proof that the spirit stick lives on. One fan couldn’t resist dropping the classic line: “I said: brr… It’s cold in here. There must be some Clovers in the at-mos-phere.” Another laughed about the first time they saw it, saying, “I went to the movies with my dad and brother to see this… he thought it was a football movie 😆.”

Plenty of fans still obsess over the characters, like one who admitted, “I love the ‘spirit fingers’ cheer coach guy they hire! But otherwise, I’ve seen this movie too many times to admit, as a now 50 year old…” Another shared a Blockbuster-era story: “This movie was so popular that when parents got tired of renting it they would try and rent But… I’m a Cheerleader. Which is nothing like Bring It On! I tried to warn people but they rarely listened.”

And the quotes just keep rolling. “Can still quote the whole opening and make my teenagers roll their eyes at me,” one fan confessed. Others keep it simple: “This movie is legit funny. Still holds up.” Or, as one fan summed it up perfectly: “I absolutely love this movie. We had it on DVD growing up so I watched it a lot. Now I watch it at least once a year. It’s so f***ing funny.”

Why It Doesn’t Need a Sequel

“Bring It On” managed to launch an entire empire despite the original cast never returning. There were five direct-to-video sequels, each with its own new team and drama. Then came “Bring It On: Cheer or Die,” a 2022 TV movie with a Halloween horror twist that definitely leaned into the camp. Oh, and don’t forget the Broadway musical, which introduced the spirit-stick energy to an entirely new audience.

Here’s the thing: even with all those spin-offs, nothing has ever really touched the magic of the original film. So, “Bring It On” doesn’t need another movie to prove its point. The film nailed the mix of comedy, competition, and commentary, and that’s why people still quote it like it just came out yesterday.

So sure, a sequel with Kirsten Dunst back in uniform might sound fun on paper… but she’s right. The original already carved out its place in pop culture history. And judging by the nonstop fan love, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
