<p id=”par-1_19″>A beaming <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/actors/?swcfpc=1″>KJ Smith</a> showed off her baby bump at the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/bet-awards-2022-lizzo-latto-jack-harlow-and-every-other-artist-performing-at-the-show.html/”>BET Awards</a> in Los Angeles on Monday night. </p>
<p id=”par-2_37″>The <em>Sistas </em>star, 40, channeled a Greek goddess in a flowing green gown. She walked the red carpet with her husband, Skyh Black, 37. At one point, an adoring Smith planted a kiss on his wife’s belly. </p>
<p id=”par-3_32″>Smith and Black married in 2023 after meeting on the set of <em>Sistas </em>in 2020. Last month, they announced they were expecting their first child together in a Mother’s Day <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DJg-voMNl8f/?img_index=5″>Instagram</a> post. </p>

<p id=”par-4_10″>Before she met Black, Smith didn’t think she wanted children. </p>
<p id=”par-5_17″>“I didn’t want kids at all. I aspired to be a rich auntie,” she recently told <a href=”https://www.essence.com/lifestyle/exclusive-actors-kj-smith-and-skyh-black-are-expecting/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Essence</a>. </p>
<p id=”par-6_24″>Rather than motherhood, Smith was focused on her career. She also has fibroids and polycystic ovarian syndrome, which can make it difficult to conceive. </p>
<p id=”par-7_40″>“People told me the number one <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/teen-mom-cheyenne-floyd-opens-therapy-zach-davis-infertility-issues.html/”>symptom of PCOS is infertility</a>. Perhaps I had convinced myself that I didn’t want to have children because I knew that, so I had completely taken myself out of the motherhood race,” she said. </p>
<p id=”par-8_23″>Smith’s fear that she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant was confirmed by a fertility specialist. But she ended up conceiving without assistance.</p>

<p id=”par-9_48″>“I had an appointment to go back to that fertility specialist who told me I was infertile. I had an appointment in January to go back to that fertility specialist and start my <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/jennifer-aniston-admits-really-hard-ivf-journey-zero-regrets.html/”>IVF treatments</a>, and I found out I was pregnant on January 19, 2025,” she shared.</p>
<p id=”par-10_22″>Smith says it was her relationship with her husband that made her realize starting a family was something she wanted to pursue.</p>
<p id=”par-11_65″>“I did not meet my husband until well into my 30s, so I had already decided,” she said. “And then when he came into my life, and you meet a man who is responsible and a leader who takes charge and wants to be a father, wants to have a family, my mind changed as we grew and as we became a couple and married.” </p>
<p id=”par-12_8″>Unlike Smith, Black dreamed of becoming a parent. </p>
<p id=”par-13_49″>“My biological father was very absent in my life,” the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/all-the-queens-men-star-candace-maxwell-teases-details-show-filled-crime-passion.html/”><em>All the Queen’s Men</em></a><em> </em>star said. “So personally, it’s something that I’ve always looked forward to. It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of, how I was going to connect with my kid, or foster their dreams, so I’m elated.”</p>
