There have been a few unexpected events on Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing” Season 3. But there is one moment that many fans are curious about: Laura Zerra’s encounter with an “animal nest.” Or was it something else?

The moment played out on Episode 3, titled “Scared And Snared Down Under.” Audiences saw Laura discovering something which appeared to be a large nest in the Australian Outback. But is this what it was? Season 3 competitor and Australian Ky Furneaux, who exited the show prematurely when she had to be medically evacuated due to abdominal swelling, has weighed in on the episode and what she thinks the nest is.

The episode aired on June 1, but Ky revealed in a video posted on Instagram that she had been asked many times to share her thoughts on what had taken place. She addressed the camera, revealing she has been asked about the “Yeti or Yowie experience” that took place in Episode 3. And captioned her post with, “Yeti, Yowie or lazy Aussie bird? What do you think? #lastonestanding @nakedandafraid.”

Ky first clarified that she had not been there to see the nest, and because she is not indigenous, she was “not really qualified to chat about their lore.” She continued, “This is all based on images of the nest and what I know about indigenous culture, having spent a lot of time on country up north. Any word that ends in ‘owie’ is usually associated with water.”

She then gave examples of place names that do this. Ky then spoke about indigenous lore and how the “yowie” is a “tricky spirit creature that hung around water.” However, Ky claims that the footage she has seen suggests it is a “bush turkey nest” that Laura stumbled upon. “We have several species of birds that are lazy nesters,” she shared. She noted how bush turkeys don’t typically spend a lot of time at the nest, which means that it is not uncommon for there to be “no feathers or poop around.”

Ky Furneaux Has Seen Some Unexplainable Things in North Country

This is Ky’s explaination for the nest, but in the video she also acknowledged that she has “seen some fairly unexplainable things up in the north of Australia.” She added that the land is “thick with trickster spirits and the lore warns against visiting certain places and not respecting the land you walk on.”

She ends her video by saying it was probably not a yeti, but “you never know.” And that she believes production and the bushman involved did what they felt was best to keep the cast safe.

Fans reacted to the post, thanking Ky for the explanation and the great information. Many have also admitted that the scene left them confused. “Thank you for this, both me and husband were watching like?!” a fan wrote. “Thanks for the clarification Ky, I’m sure production misses you on the show, we do!” another person shared.
