While Anne Hathaway has her hands full working on the sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” interest is growing in another of her films that’s getting a sequel. In October 2024, Anne Hathaway took to her Instagram to confirm that there is indeed a “The Princess Diaries 3” in the works.

While Hathaway is the only cast member signed on, others, such as Chris Pine, Heather Matarazzo, and Mandy Moore, have expressed interest in returning. In a recent conversation with Kylie Kelcie on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, Moore reveals what she hopes happened to her mean girl character, Lana.

Mandy Moore Would Love to See Lana Redeemed

“I had heard that there was maybe an idea to have my character sort of make a bit of a cameo,” Moore told Kelce when asked if she’s returning for “The Princess Diaries 3.” “But that was months ago, I haven’t heard anything since, who knows?”

“I would be game,” she continued. “I would love for there to be some sort of redemptive storyline,” Moore shared. “Maybe my character is working at an animal rescue. Hopefully, she’s made something good of her life.”

Kelce suggested that Lana now works at a nonprofit, an idea Moore loves. “Totally!” she exclaimed. “She’s sort of come around, and she’s actually a good person. She peaked in high school, and maybe that gave her some… I don’t know.”

“She got humbled after high school, and now she’s doing great,” Kelce fills in for her.

“That’s what I’m hoping for if I return, stay tuned!” Moore laughed.

“I’ll cross my fingers and toes for that to happen,” Kelce added. “Maybe we can manifest it right now.”

Chris Pine and Heather Matarazzo Are Hoping for an Invite as Well

Fans have been eager to hear who from the cast is returning. Not even Julie Andrews, who played her royal grandmother, has confirmed her return. Chris Pine, who played Mia Thermopolis’s (Hathaway) love interest in the second film, said that the first he’d heard about the new movie was on the Internet. While appearing on “Today with Hoda & Jenna,” he repeated that he hadn’t been contacted.

“I don’t know anything,” he said. “Call Disney. Call [Disney CEO] Bob Iger. The answer is I gotta see. I don’t know anything about it. I think it’s fantastic.”

Heather Matarazzo, who played Mia’s best friend Lilly Moscovitz in both films, left Hollywood and moved to Michigan, but has still said she’d return for a third movie. “If Annie and Julie are down, of course,” she told Cosmopolitan.
