Larry Birkhead spoke out regarding his daughter Dannielynn Birkhead potentially following in her mother Anna Nicole Smith’s footsteps and going into modeling.Â
The photographer shared with E! News how he is cautious about his 18-year-old daughter entering the entertainment industry.
“Iâm hesitant,â he told the outlet. “Iâll support her if she chooses it, but itâs not my first choice. Then again, itâs not my life.”
Birkhead added his reluctancy for his daughter to model stems from how people are quick to judge.
“Theyâll say, ‘Oh, here she goesâfollowing in her momâs footsteps,’â he continued. âAnd because her mom passed away, people attach a negative connotation to it.”
He added that no matter what Dannielynn decides to do, he wants her to be equiped with as much information as possible.
“As a dad, my job is to say: ‘Hereâs what you might face,’” he told the outlet. “I worked as a reporter and photographer. Iâve seen the industry from the other side. I know what Anna went through. I just throw all that into a pot and say, ‘Are you sure this is what you want to do?’ I want her to make an informed decision.”

Dannielynn recently wore her late motherâs dress to an event right before the Kentucky Derby in May.Â
She told Access Hollywood, “This is the closest to a hug I can get from her.â
Larry Birkhead shared a series of images of himself and Dannielynn at the event.
The two attended the Barnstable-Brown Gala, an event where Anna Nicole Smith wore the exact dress 21 years ago.
“Life full circle,” Birkhead wrote. “She said she chose the dress because it was her Momâs and ‘super cool’.”

Birkhead met Smith for the first time in 2003 at the Barnstable-Brown Gala, according to PEOPLE. He now attends the event annually with Dannielynn.
In 2023, Dannielynn wore a blouse featuring images of her mom from her iconic Guess campaign from years prior.
Birkhead told the outlet, “She’s showing off her fashion sense but at the same time paying tribute to her mom.”
He also added it was the 20th anniversary of when he met her late mom.
He recalled how it was meeting Smith for the first time.
“It seems like yesterday to be honest that I was walking up with my camera bags and just hoping for a decent picture,” he said. “I wound up with so much more. It’s funny how one event can change your life. And that’s what this party did for me.”
