Legendary Sitcom Actress Passes Away & Tributes Pour In

The news broke on June 21st that iconic sitcom actress Lynn Hamilton had passed away at the age of 95. Lynn appeared on multiple classic television shows but was most famous for her roles on “Sanford and Son” as well as “The Waltons.”

According to PEOPLE, Rev. Calvin Carson, her former manager and publicist, posted the news on Instagram. He said in the post, “Statement on the Passing of Legendary Actress Lynn Hamilton at 95 Years Old.”

The post went on, “With profound gratitude and admiration, we celebrate the extraordinary life of iconic actress Alzenia “Lynn” Hamilton-Jenkins, whose remarkable legacy continues to uplift and inspire.”

The announcement then said, “Her illustrious career, spanning over five decades, has left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment, motivating audiences across the globe through her work as a model, stage, film, and television actress.”


Lynn Hamilton Had a Remarkable Career

According to IMDB, Lynn Hamilton began her acting career in 1958. She spent her first several years making episodic appearances, including in notable shows such as “Gunsmoke,” “The Bill Cosby Show,” and “Hawaii Five-O.” Notably, she graduated from the Goodman School of Drama.

However, her big break didn’t come until 1972 when she was cast on “Sanford and Son” as Donna Harris. She filmed an impressive 22 episodes for the hit series. Later, Lynn Hamilton joined the cast of “The Waltons” in 1973 as Verdie Grant Foster. She played the role for 17 episodes. Lynn also appeared in the later made-for-TV film for the show.

Lynn’s longest-running acting role was in the “Generations” TV series, which ran from 1989 to 1991. Notably, she played Vivian Potter. She was also active throughout the 90s and 2000s, making appearances on shows like “Moesha,” “Sister Sister,” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” 

Her last credited role was in 2009 for an episode of the crime series “Cold Case.” She has 66 total acting credits. 

Tributes are Pouring In

Naturally, fans are paying their respects to Lynn Hamilton. The account Days Daily on X posted a clip of her from “Days of Our Lives” and said, “#DAYS Lynn Hamilton played Rita Carver in 1987. Here is a scene with both of her sons, Abe & Jonah. May she rest in peace.”

The “Golden Girls” news account posted, “Actress #LynnHamilton, who appeared in #GoldenGirls S3E23 “Mixed Blessings,” has passed away at age 95. She was a semi-regular on #TheWaltons & #SanfordAndSon and appeared in #Roots.”
