Lego Fortnite explains how the new permadeath Expert mode will work

Expert mode is nothing to scoff at (Epic Games)

A new Cozy mode for an easier experience, and an Expert mode that permanently eliminates you, are coming to Lego Fortnite this week.

When Lego Fortnite and Rocket Racing launched last year, for a moment it looked like the former could take on Battle Royale as Epic Games’ number one offering, hitting over 2 million concurrent players.

The player numbers for Lego Fortnite have since fallen far behind Battle Royale, but the survival sandbox game is still popular and receives frequent content updates.

The next update is Thursday, June 13, and brings along new difficulty setting Cozy mode, as well as Expert mode, which permanently eliminates you from the world, but there’s a way around it.

Cozy mode aims to give fans a fairly easy experience and is a mix between already-existing Sandbox mode and Survival mode.

The new setting will still come with enemies, set on easy mode, but other measures such as hunger, stamina, and temperature are disabled.

‘Whether you’re a beginner survivor or a builder who likes a little bit of thrill, Cozy mode’s up your alley! Create a world and get greeted by Slumber, a friendly face who’ll guide you through your journey step-by-step,’ Epic Games says in the patch notes.

Expert mode on the other hand does the opposite and makes things a lot more difficult with new Storm-Wild creatures that deal more damage, are faster, and have more health than regular enemies (regular enemies are also stronger in this mode).

The new mode also introduces Hard mode to Lego Fortnite, and none of the settings in Expert mode can be changed after selecting it.

Not just that, but if you lose all your hearts in Expert mode, you will be permanently eliminated from the world.

You can save yourself though, by having a Totem Of Return equipped when you die, which will be destroyed but revive you back in your bed with your backpack.

You can unlock the recipe for the Totem Of Return by adding a Storm Core, which you get from Storm-Wild enemies to your inventory.

It sounds like quite the challenge, so Lego Fortnite rewards the brave fans who take on Expert mode with three new trophies, the Grassland Trophy, Dry Valley Trophy, and Frostlands Trophy – each attainable by defeating a Storm-Wild enemy in the areas named on the trophy and interactive with a level 10 village.
