Formula One superstar Lewis Hamilton is mourning the loss of his beloved bulldog Roscoe, who passed away after four days on life support. The seven-time world champion shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, calling Roscoe âa beautiful soul, an angel, and true friend.â
Hamilton Shares Emotional Goodbye to Roscoe
Hamilton adopted Roscoe in 2013, the same year he joined the Mercedes AMG F1 team. The English bulldog became a fixture in Hamiltonâs garage during race weekends, delighting fans as one of Formula Oneâs most recognizable four-legged companions.
In his first post, Hamilton explained the painful decision he was forced to make:
âAfter four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end.â
Hamilton added, âBringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.â He went on to thank fans for showing his dog so much love through the years, writing, âIt has been so special to witness and feel.â
Hamilton also shared another tribute on Roscoeâs own Instagram account, which has more than one million followers. Alongside two black-and-white photos of the bulldog, Hamilton wrote, âRoscoe Hamilton passed away yesterday at 9:20 PM in his dadâs arms. He loved you all.â
Roscoeâs passing comes five years after Hamilton lost his other bulldog, Coco, in 2020. Together, the dogs had been staples at grand prix events, charming crowds while Hamilton dominated the track.
Lewis Hamilton Posts Second Touching Tribute: ‘Roscoe Forever’
On Monday morning, he shared videos of Roscoe simply captioned, âRoscoe Forever.â The understated post resonated deeply with fans, who quickly filled the comments with support.
One follower wrote, âLosing a loyal friend is one of the hardest things. I went through it with my Leo, and I share your grief.â
Another added, âYou gave Roscoe the best life any dog could ever have. Youâre the best dog dad in the world.â
Hamilton had previously opened up about Roscoeâs health journey. After years of mobility and breathing issues, the bulldogâs switch to a plant-based diet in 2020 transformed his quality of life.
âHeâs like a puppy again,â Hamilton told Vanity Fair in 2022.
Out of concern for Roscoeâs health, Hamilton stepped away from his scheduled commitments, missing Pirelliâs tire tests at Mugello in Italy on Friday as well as the Ferrari Style Show in Milan on Saturday.
Hamiltonâs words highlight the bond that defined their time together: âAlthough it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return.â
