Hamilton adopted Roscoe in 2013, the same year he joined the Mercedes AMG F1 team. The English bulldog became a fixture in Hamilton’s garage during race weekends, delighting fans as one of Formula One’s most recognizable four-legged companions.

In his first post, Hamilton explained the painful decision he was forced to make:

“After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end.”

Hamilton added, “Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.” He went on to thank fans for showing his dog so much love through the years, writing, “It has been so special to witness and feel.”

Hamilton also shared another tribute on Roscoe’s own Instagram account, which has more than one million followers. Alongside two black-and-white photos of the bulldog, Hamilton wrote, “Roscoe Hamilton passed away yesterday at 9:20 PM in his dad’s arms. He loved you all.”

Roscoe’s passing comes five years after Hamilton lost his other bulldog, Coco, in 2020. Together, the dogs had been staples at grand prix events, charming crowds while Hamilton dominated the track.

On Monday morning, he shared videos of Roscoe simply captioned, “Roscoe Forever.” The understated post resonated deeply with fans, who quickly filled the comments with support.

One follower wrote, “Losing a loyal friend is one of the hardest things. I went through it with my Leo, and I share your grief.”

Another added, “You gave Roscoe the best life any dog could ever have. You’re the best dog dad in the world.”

Hamilton had previously opened up about Roscoe’s health journey. After years of mobility and breathing issues, the bulldog’s switch to a plant-based diet in 2020 transformed his quality of life.

“He’s like a puppy again,” Hamilton told Vanity Fair in 2022.

Out of concern for Roscoe’s health, Hamilton stepped away from his scheduled commitments, missing Pirelli’s tire tests at Mugello in Italy on Friday as well as the Ferrari Style Show in Milan on Saturday.

Hamilton’s words highlight the bond that defined their time together: “Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return.”
