Lily Allen has explained the reason she decided to open up about her experience with a sex worker in her 2018 memoir My Thoughts Exactly.
The Not Fair singer, 39, previously revealed that she had hired female escorts while on tour in 2014.
She cited being lonely while away from home playing shows at the end of her marriage to ex-husband Sam Cooper as the catalyst for her decision.
Lily, who is now married to Stranger Things star David Harbour, has now explained why she chose to share the intimate information.
Speaking on her Miss Me? podcast with co-hist Miquita Oliver, Lily said she lived in ‘perpetual fear’ of being outed in the press.
‘During the breakdown of my last marriage, I was very promiscuous and experimental, and I… had sex with female prostitutes. Sex workers,’ she said.

The artist continued: ‘I knew that this thing existed and that I’d been behaving this way, and I thought that was going to be revealed, so I thought I’d take a bit of the power back and reveal it myself [in My Thoughts Exactly].’
She went on to say she believes ‘lots of other people’ share the same experiences as Lily, and that a person with a platform sharing them makes ‘people feel better about themselves.’
‘To me, that’s what art is. Helping people to come to terms with their own behaviour and behaviour that society sometimes comes down on, but we’re all just human,’ she said.
She went on to joke that she hopes her husband David, with who she tied the knot in 2020, isn’t listening, as she’s ‘vanilla’ now.

It comes after Lily was reduced to tears by Billie Eilish’s rider requests when the singer appeared on the podcast.
Lily said on the next episode of the podcast: ‘I really did cry when the rider came through.’
She explained that she found Billie’s rider ‘triggering’ because it reminded her of her time as a popstar on a very tight promo schedule.
The Smile singer said of Billie: ‘She was very sweet, I thought, and very calm. The energy around her, the same could not be said…’
Lily continued: ‘It was funny for me because I’ve never seen that side of it before. It was so weird. We talked about it a bit on the podcast last week but I really did cry when the rider came through, because I guess it was sort of triggering to be around somebody in a promo schedule.’
In a previous episode, the star admitted to sleeping with Miquita’s celebrity crush on purpose – calling her friend the following day to confess.
