Following the release of Lily Allen’s explosive new album detailing the demise of her marriage to David Harbour, fans are predicting somewhat of a ‘nightmare’ for the Stranger Things actor in the coming weeks.
Rumours of trouble in paradise between Lily and David, who wed in 2020, first started swirling in early 2024, with the then-couple quickly quashing speculation that they were ‘living separate lives’.
However, it appears all was far from rosy behind the scenes, as Lily, 40, and David, 50, confirmed last December that they were, in fact, divorcing.
In the months since, there’s been plenty of speculation surrounding what led to the high-profile split, with accusations of infidelity on David’s part gaining momentum.
While the TV star is yet to respond to the allegations that he was cheating on Lily—potentially for as long as three years with an unnamed costume designer—the LDN hitmaker has seemingly given her side of the story in her new record, West End Girl.
As Lily explores themes such as cheating, sex addiction, and open relationships, shocking lyrics include references to an ‘arrangement’ between the former spouses, who allegedly agreed to sleep with other people, but they had to be ‘strangers’.
Lily also tears into a mystery woman, whom she names ‘Madeline’, suggesting David had an affair with someone his wife knew well.
In the aftermath of the album’s release, fans have taken over social media with their reactions, noting the apt timing of its drop, given that David is due to start promoting the final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things and will possibly have to dodge some awkward questions.
What’s more, the Jim Hopper actor appears to have disabled his Instagram comments, preventing Lily supporters from inundating him with accusations.
On X, @canigetitjames wrote: ‘David Harbour turning comments off on all his posts oh Lily Allen the woman you are’.
‘David Harbour is about to have the most miserable press tour for Stranger Things’, joked @r_ileymaybe.
‘if at least 1 interviewer on the stranger things press tour doesnt ask david harbour “and who tf is madeline” im throwing hands’, added @BIBLEGIRL354.
‘Lily Allen releasing West End Girl around the time David Harbour is going to start press for Stranger Things S5 is iconic tbh’, declared @JessAtkinson_92.
Stranger Things 5 releases its first four episodes on November 26, with three more following at Christmas and the finale on New Year’s Eve.
Meanwhile, The Fear songstress Lily is lapping up the glowing reviews of her first album since 2018’s No Shame, having announced West End Girl’s release date just four days in advance.
Critics have widely praised it as her best work to date, even comparing its powerful storytelling to that of famous divorce albums Lemonade by Beyonce and 30 by Adele.
In her own review for Metro, Music Reporter Danni Scott described West End Girl as being ‘so personal you’ll be thinking about it for a week after’.
Speaking ahead of her album release, Lily opened up to British Vogue about her time in the studio in December 2024, having started writing the tell-all tracks shortly before her divorce became public.
‘I made this record in December 2024, and it was a way for me to process what was happening in my life,’ she told the publication earlier this month, choosing her words carefully.
Lily, who tied the knot with David a year after meeting on dating app Raya, added: ‘There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel.
‘It is inspired by what went on in the relationship.’
Asked what emotions she felt throughout the creative process, she stated solemnly: ‘Confusion, sorrow, grief, helplessness.’
Reps for David Harbour have been contacted for comment.
Lily Allen’s new album, West End Girl, is out now.
