Lisa Ann Walter Wants a ‘Parent Trap’ Reboot, But With a Special Tribute

It looks like Lindsay Lohan might be the lucky charm of movies! Especially when it comes to reboots. First, we got her comeback with the iconic Jamie Lee Curtis in “Freakier Friday.” Now, there’s talk of maybe, just maybe, a “Parent Trap” revival!

Lisa Ann Walter, who played the beloved and fan-favorite housekeeper Chessy in the 1998 Disney classic, says she’s absolutely open to returning. But only under a few adorable and heartfelt conditions. Speaking exclusively to People, Walter said, “One-hundred percent if Nancy Meyers wrote it.”

The Power of Nancy Meyers & a Little Movie Magic

Meyers, the rom-com queen behind “Something’s Gotta Give” and “The Holiday,” co-wrote and directed the 1998 remake. The film was so successful that it catapulted Lohan into instant stardom as a child actor. Lohan, in her film debut, played identical twins Annie and Hallie, two separated sisters who meet at summer camp and scheme to reunite their divorced parents, played by Dennis Quaid and the late Natasha Richardson.

Walter made her mark in the film as Nick Parker’s lovable housekeeper, who turned out to be the mastermind after she uncovered the girls’ plan and became one of their strongest allies. Off-screen, she formed real-life friendships too. Most notably with Elaine Hendrix, who played the unforgettable villainess Meredith Blake. The two bonded during filming and are now close friends. “We talk literally every day,” Walter revealed. 

Walter and Hendrix have leaned into the “Parent Trap” fandom over the years. “We are blessed with some of the most dedicated fans of any movie ever—people still dress up as the characters to this day,” she said. 

And that’s exactly why Walter hopes the reboot idea doesn’t get shut down entirely. “People love it. How are you going to not honor them?” she asked.

Still, the conversation around a reboot isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about legacy. Walter emphasized that if a new version were ever to be made, it must honor Richardson. The 90s film star tragically passed away in 2009 after a ski accident.

“Dennis [Quaid] has said that he doesn’t think it’s doable without Natasha, and I understand that,” she said. “The movie—it’s a kids’ story, but it’s a love story. So to have a love story that involves that grief, that sadness—if it was written beautifully, maybe it’s doable.”

Twin Ties & Personal Touch

Walter, now a star on the Emmy-winning series “Abbott Elementary,” still holds deep ties to the “Parent Trap” cast and the joy it brought into her life. She occasionally DMs with Lohan on Instagram and even keeps in touch with Lohan’s dad. “I text her father here and there—like, ‘Lindsay wanted me to tell you so and so,’” she said with a laugh. And in a move that would make Chessy proud, Walter revealed that during the pandemic, she was cooking up massive trays of food and delivering them to Quaid’s home.

While Walter’s own kids didn’t obsess over her most famous film, she revealed, “The Parent Trap” still found its way into her family lore. “I have four kids, including identical twins born on the twins’ birthday from The Parent Trap. They’re October 11,” she shared. 

Yes, isn’t that wild? Her twins, Spencer and Simon, were born on the exact same day as Hallie and Annie in the movie.

So, will we get to see Chessy back in action? Maybe with a few more aprons, a tray of Oreos, and peanut butter. As well as a new generation of twins pulling pranks and fixing hearts. If Meyers picks up the pen, Lohan says yes, and Richardson’s memory is honored, we just might want to pack our bags for summer camp.

After all, it’s not just a reboot. It’s a reunion.
