A student from Liverpool is the first person to win the full £100,000 on The 1% Club – a task which many contestants find impossible to achieve.
The 1% Club Rollover is a spin-off of ITV’s much-loved series, The 1% Club, hosted by Lee Mack.
As normal, 100 contestants battle it out to try and win the jackpot by answering questions based on logic and common sense. The goal is to answer the question that only one per cent of the country gets right.
In the spin-off series also hosted by the Would I Lie to You captain, contestants have the chance to win £100,000 or more. With the new rules, the prize pot can continue into the next episode, meaning up to £500,000 could be available to win by the end of the week.
In last night’s episode, a student from Liverpool made history as the first person ever to win a full £100,000.
Who was the first person to win a full £100,000 on The 1% Club?
Law student, Lucie Alcock was in the final round on Thursday’s show and expertly answered a question that not many people could work out.
Before her show-stopping answer, the student confirmed that she watches the show with her boyfriend at university, and they both had applied to take part.
‘I’m the only one who got on, so I’m trying to win something for both of us,’ she told host Lee.
In the difficult last round, Lee asked contestants which letter of the alphabet came next in a sequence displayed on the screen.
The answer was the letter that came next in names of shapes that were each missing the same number of letters from the beginning of their names as the number of sides they had – a puzzle so difficult to solve that James Neill on X called it ‘impossible’.
However, Lucie made light work of the question and managed to answer in around half the allotted time.
Has anyone else won a full £100,000 on The 1% Club?
Former professional footballer, Clarke Carlisle, is the only other person to win £100,000 in full. However, he did it during a celebrity special of the show, and took the money home for charity.
Some have come close, but Lucie made history.
Lee, 57, congratulated Lucie, and was shocked by how quickly she got the answer: ‘So you totally understood it? It wasn’t just a wild guess?’
Lucie confirmed this was the case, to which Lee replied: ‘That’s brilliant.’
The student was stunned at her victory, and muttered ‘oh my God’, before giggling in disbelief as the credits began to roll.
Others online noted her success too, with Joseph Mendy writing on X: ‘Only once before has the full £100k has been won & that was in a celebrity special well before the rollover became a thing.
‘Tonight, Lucie has scooped the whole shebang. And she will be back tomorrow along with the other 4 finalists.’
Not only has Lucie won this cash, but under the new rules, she’s got the chance to win even more on tonight’s episode.
The 1% Club Roller returns tonight on ITV1 at 9pm.
