Bill Mumy is honoring his longtime co-star, June Lockhart, after her death at age 100. Lockhart died on October 23 at her home in Santa Monica, California. Mumy and Lockhart appeared together on the CBS sci-fi series âLost in Space,â where she portrayed Dr. Maureen Robinson and he played her on-screen son, Will.
On October 25, Mumy, 71, shared a still from the show and a photo from a later cast reunion on Instagram. âGoodbye to the brilliant June Lockhart,â he wrote. âA one-of-a-kind, talented, nurturing, adventurous, and noncompromising Lady. She did it her way. June will always be one of my very favorite moms. 100 years here. Wow! R.I.P.â
Their Bond Spanned Decades
Lockhart starred on âLost in Spaceâ from 1965 to 1968. Before her time in space, she was well known to TV audiences as Ruth Martin on âLassie,â and she also had roles on âPetticoat Junction,â âGeneral Hospital,â and many other classic series.
Mumy honored Lockhart earlier this year on her milestone birthday. On June 25, he shared several photos and wrote, âHappy 100th Birthday to the Mighty JUNE LOCKHART today!! What a gal! She is truly special! Onward.â
He later continued celebrating her life with additional memories, writing, âStaying in June memory mode as the adventure of her 101st year gets started!â
Lockhart Remained Active in Spirit
In an interview with Remind magazine earlier this year, Mumy shared that he stayed connected with Lockhart through her daughter. âI talk to her through her daughter,â he said. âJune is at home. She has two assistants. Sheâs still in her own home. She follows the politics, she reads the news, but she doesnât talk on the phone.â

Mumy also shared that Lockhart had a vibrant love for music. âShe was enamored with David Bowie,â he once said. âShe is a real rock and roller at heart.â
He explained that although many viewers knew Lockhart as the wholesome mother figure from âLassie,â âLost in Space,â and âPetticoat Junction,â the real Lockhart had an adventurous and bold personality. âSheâs like genius level brilliant,â Mumy said. âShe loves rock and roll music, and she loves rock and roll bad boys.â
Lockhart, who became one of the most recognizable faces on 1950s and 1960s television, died on October 23 in Santa Monica, California, according to Variety
